When it comes to members of the royal family, we were pretty sure that Prince William and Kate Middleton's youngest child, Prince Louis, had the title of 'Chief Puller of Funny Faces' firmly in the bag – but if today's Commonwealth Games are anything to go by, it looks as though little Princess Charlotte may be out to steal his crown.

The only daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge was spotted accompanying her parents to watch a swimming race at the Sandwell Aquatics Centre, Birmingham, and while there, seemed to get well and truly engrossed in the action.

Also in the crowd were Prince William's aunt and uncle, Prince Edward and Sophie, Countess of Wessex, the latter of whom Kate is especially close friends with, along with their two children, Lady Louise (who had a close bond with Prince Philip) and James, Viscount Severn.

Princess Charlotte could be seen listening to her parents explain the rules of the race and who each contender is, whilst wearing an adorable striped dress and a braided hairstyle. And, as you can see from these fun photos, the young royal couldn't help but get pretty absorbed into the action, offering up an array of expressive faces that are more than reminiscent of Prince Louis' Platinum Jubilee meme-worthy escapades:

Royal fans were quick to share their delight at seeing Charlotte out and about with her parents during the school holidays, along with the joy of seeing her get stuck into the sporting event (much like here mama – see: Kate Middleton at Wimbledon for details).

Kayla Adams, a prolific royal enthusiast on Twitter, commented, "Princess Charlotte is giving her brother Louis a run for his money with these expressions today 😂❤️".

Everyone's clicking on...

Another added that hopefully her expressions are a sign that Charlotte feels relaxed, even in a big crowd, writing, "Lovely! From my experience, children would show feelings in an environment they feel comfortable, let alone smart & confident ones. Please support children's free expressions."

While a third social media user, royal producer Lizzie Robinson, remarked, "The highs and lows of live sport…as told by Princess Charlotte."

It seems that today wasn't also just for fun though, as Princess Charlotte was spotted on video shaking hands with members of staff from SportsAid - something she'll no doubt be doing much more of when she's old enough to carry out royal duties herself:

During this chat, mum Kate Middleton also shared that Princess Charlotte is such a big fan of gymnastics that she "spends most of her time upside-down doing headstands, or cartwheels".

How sweet!
