If there's one person you wouldn't expect to see sitting down for a major session at a tattoo studio, it's Prince William. But, as it goes, the Duke of Cambridge almost got a pretty big tatt across his back – until Kate Middleton stopped him.

It all happened a few years back when Prince William was with the Navy in the Caribbean. According to one sailor from HMS Iron Duke, the Royal was inspired by David Beckham's impressive guardian angel tattoo on his back.

"Lots of the guys on board sport tattoos [and] it was obvious William was fascinated," the sailor told The Sun (via The Express). "He asked how painful it was and wanted to know what they thought of his idea for a tattoo across his shoulders."

The sailor continued: "We didn't think he was serious – but he said he was keen to get a large tattoo like the one David Beckham has. He said the only thing stopping him was his [then] girlfriend."

We wonder what Kate would have thought if he had opted to get inked?

But, it turns out the Duke of Cambridge isn't the only royal interested in body modification. According to the The Express, back in 2017 on a visit to the 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards at Lille Barracks in Aldershot, the late Prince Philip took an interest in the soldiers' tattoos.

Everyone's clicking on...

"He was asking them where they had got them done," a source said at the time, "and what the story was behind them."

Princess Anne's daughter Zara Tindall also surprised royal fans when she got her tongue pierced too, according to OK!. The young royal sported the piercing during her teenage years, although it's unclear whether she still has it. Similarly, Lady Amelia Windsor (granddaughter of the Queen’s cousin, Prince Edward) has a number of tattoos, including a tiger on her shoulder.

As for other members of the Royal Family who've been interested in getting inked, some have opted for temporary Henna tattoos over the years. Notably, the Duchess of Cambridge sported a sweet Henna flower on her hand while pregnant with Prince Louis in 2018, while Meghan Markle also got a Henna hand tattoo during her visit to Morocco with Prince Harry in 2019. And, even the Duchess of Cornwall 'got tatted' on her trip to Zanzibar in 2011, having an intricate Henna design on her hand.
