The Royal Family have shared three classic photos of the Queen holding a camera in celebration of World Photography Day on 19 August 2021.
Posting to Instagram and Twitter, the Royal Family account wrote, "To mark #WorldPhotographyDay, here are a few moments where The Queen has been pictured behind the lens 📸."
The first of the images (estimated to have been taken around 1952) is a black-and-white shot of the Queen helping a young Prince Charles and Princess Anne operate an old-fashioned camera outside of Balmoral Castle.
The next, taken in 1982, shows the Queen behind the lens of a gold-toned Rollei camera during a visit to the South Sea islands of Tuvalu. Just out of shot is the late Duke of Edinburgh at her side. Ever a source of royal fashion inspiration, the Queen is pictured wearing her trademark white gloves, a pearl necklace, and a floral dress coordinated with her hat.
The third photo, taken in Lindsay Park Stud in South Australia in 1977, is another black-and-white image, showing the Queen wearing her favourite white gloves again as she takes a photo at the races.
Twitter was absolutely delighted by these throwback photos, with many pointing out that the Queen has long been known for her love of photography. One fan wrote, "The Queen loves taking pictures" alongside four more photos of her behind the lens.
Everyone's clicking on...
Another fan posted a black-and-white photo of the Queen with Prince Philip, which (via British Vogue) shows the married couple on the South Pacific en route to Fiji in December 1953.
Prince William and Kate Middleton also marked the occasion, taking to Instagram to share the photographs of the ten youngest finalists from their Hold Still community project. They wrote, "Photography has an amazing ability to create a lasting record of what we have all experienced and are experiencing.
"That’s why this #WorldPhotographyDay we wanted to celebrate the youth of the #HoldStill2020 photography project and share the images from the ten youngest finalists. There is so much talent, creativity and curiosity displayed in each and every one."
Yep, their passion for photography definitely runs in the family.
