I'm calling it — it's officially a hot clog summer. While clogs aren't exactly known as the sexiest of shoes, their popularity has steadily risen over the past few years. The pandemic changed the way all of us dress, putting comfort front and centre — Crocs, which were once reserved for nurses, chefs and children, exploded in popularity. Fashion labels and celebrities alike have now partnered with the brand, solidifying its status as a must have shoe. Birkenstocks came next, making over its centuries-long orthopaedic reputation, which culminated in a starring role in the 2023 blockbuster 'Barbie' movie. The Arizona sandals worn by Margot Robbie spiked in popularity, and the Boston clogs have become a much-memed staple of East London residents.
So it makes perfect sense that 1970s-style, wooden sole platform clogs are now having their moment. I'll admit that I am biased, as I have been wearing a pair of Scholl's Pescura clogs on repeat for the past few weeks.
The block chunky heel adds a level of polish to any outfit, but is comfy enough to wear all day long. I've been pairing them with gingham dresses, but have rounded up some of the best clog outfits from the street style set below to inspire your own looks.
Jorts and chunky socks
Denim and bermuda shorts are the summer trend that just won't let up. They work perfectly with a clog shoe, and as this wearer demonstrates, a statement, chunky sock.
Baby doll dress and bracelet bag
The 70s boho revival we're currently experiencing is all down to Chemena Kamali, creative director of Chloé. Her cork wedges and platform clogs have become footwear staples for the A-list and street style set alike. The tan leather and gold hardware on this pair scream 70s chic, especially when paired with a light blue chiffon dress and statement bracelet bag (also from Chloé, of course).
Denim jacket and baggy cargos
You don't have to dress 70s for clogs to look good! Baggy cargo pants and an oversized denim jacket make this look feel fresh and current, and the studded clogs complement the 'fit perfectly. There are no fashion rules here.
Everyone's clicking on...
All white
Make your shoes the focus of the outfit, like this wearer, by wearing head-to-toe white. The clogs really stand out, and the romantic, ruffled textures of the jacket add to that boho, free-spirited aesthetic.
Pattern clash top and maxi skirt
Patterned or brocade fabric clogs are a cool and unexpected take on the trend — but don't stop there. More is more, and I love how this wearer has pattern clashed every element of her outfit. The ruffled, floral maxi skirt, pleated map-print top and statement jewellery somehow all work together.
Jeans and a trench coat
Clogs are an every day shoe, so why not wear them with an every day outfit? Although the cow-print leather of this wearer's pair add a fun twist. Practical and stylish (particularly in this rain) — enough said.
Maxi dress and sporty sunglasses
Heeled, embellished clogs are the perfect match to a colourful maxi dress. This wearer's bold accessories take the look out of the past and right into the present day.
Polo shirt and midi skirt
Striped polo and rugby shirts continue to reign supreme thanks to Miu Miu. Give your preppy outfit a retro twist by wearing with clogs instead of loafers.
