11 of the best new TV shows to get excited about in 2018

TV's six-part drama from Unforgotten writer Chris Lang stars Tom Riley as DI Will Wagstaffe - a man haunted by the murder of his parents when he was 16 years old.

Set in London during a heatwave (doh!), the drama is inspired by characters created by novelist Adam Creed, who has written a series of books featuring Will Wagstaffe.

As he battles with the unresolved murder of his family, he forms a close relationship with his sister Juliette, played by Charlotte Riley, and young nephew Harry, who stays with him when Juliette has troubles with her boyfriend.

Dark Heart is due for release on ITV this autumn.

Night Manager fans rejoice - another John le Carré classic tale is being adapted into a six-part series by the BBC and AMC.Starring Alexandre Skarsgard, Florence Pugh, and Michael Shannon, The Little Drummer Girl is the story of an ordinary person being drawn into the world of espionage.

Described by the BBC as "sharply contemporary", the series will "weave a dynamic and exciting story of espionage and international intrigue".

The Little Drummer Girl is due for release on BBC One this autumn.

The political thriller introduces newcomer Nabhaan Rizwan as Raza - a young, second generation Pakistani man from East London is coerced by Paddy Considine's Counter-Terrorism officer Gabe to go undercover and inform for him. Gabe, who is hiding a secret past at all costs - is joined by Bel Powley's Holly, his new and ambitious partner whose endless curiosity becomes threatening to him.

As the central counterterrorism investigation heats up, the stakes for all three get higher and higher, and sides become blurred.

Informer is due for release on BBC Two this autumn.

Ricky Gervais has written, directed and will star in a brand new Netflix Original comedy show called After Life.

The synopsis reads: "Tony (Ricky Gervais) had a perfect life. But after his wife Lisa suddenly dies, Tony changes.

"After contemplating taking his own life, he decides instead to live long enough to punish the world by saying and doing whatever he likes from now on. He thinks it’s like a Super Power — not caring about himself or anyone else — but it turns out to be tricky when everyone is trying to save the nice guy they used to know."
