After debuting its first season in 2024, After The Flood returned for its second season this January, and it didn't disappoint.
As a quick plot refresh, After The Flood takes place in Waterside and follows police officer Jo Marshall as she investigates the death of an unnamed man following a flood. The second season still centres on Jo, who has been promoted to detective, follows her as she investigates a new death after a wildfire develops on the moors.
And that's not all, separated from Pat, Jo is living with her mother Molly (a queen bee type who basically knows everyone's business) and the show continues to explore environmental issues facing rural communities.
Yep, it's brilliant telly. So much so, we're currently keeping our fingers crossed for season three, which has been broached by Sophie Rundle, who plays Jo, in an interview.
"I think it [season 3] works because [writer] Mick [Ford] and the other writers have built a community of people," she told Radio Times. "That's the key to making it feel alive. There are always stories to tell when it feels like a real group of dynamic people."

Who is Jo Marshall? Jo is the series lead and has been promoted to detective. She's struggling with balancing her new promotion, with her split from partner and colleague Pat and managing her childcare arrangements now that she's moved back in with her mum.
What else has Sophie Rundle been in? Sophie is best known for her role as Ada in Peaky Blinders, she's also starred in Gentleman Jack, Bodyguard, The Nest, The Diplomat, Dickensian, and Jamestown where she met her on and off-screen partner Matt Stokoe who plays Pat in After The Flood.

Who is Pat Holman? Pat is a detective in the Series Crime Squad and this season is dealing with the impact of his breakup with Jo, who he is still very much in love with. He's now living with his sister, who has moved into the home he once shared with Jo.
What else has Matt Stokoe been in? Over the course of his career Matt has appeared in TV shows including Misfits, The Village, The Musketeers, Bodyguard, Jamestown and The Hunt For Raoul Moat, in which he played the titular character.

Who is Molly Marshall? Molly is Jo's mother, whom she is now living with and this season it looks like Molly may be having a romance with Jack Radcliffe.

Philip Glenister as Jack Radcliffe
Who is Jack Radcliffe? Jack is a local businessman who went through it last season, but now things are looking up slightly as he's got his sights set on Molly.
What else has Philip Glenister been in? Philip is best known for his role in drama Life on Mars and its spin-off Ashes to Ashes. He's also starred in Calendar Girls, Bergerac, Belgravia, Outcast, Mad Dogs and Clocking Off.
Nicholas Gleaves as Phil Mackie
Who is Phil Mackie? Phil is basically the main villain of the series. He works as a sergeant at the police force with Jo and Pat. He tried to manipulate Jo throughout the first season and their relationship is still on very rocky ground going into season two.
What else has Nicholas Gleaves been in? Nicholas is best known for his roles in the series Playing the Field, Coronation Street and Scott & Bailey. He's also appeared in Bodyguard, Waterloo Road, and The Demon Headmaster.
