We are always chronically online, but 2025 has been a particularly great year to be on the internet, thanks to the hundreds of memes that take over our social feeds. But what have been the stand outs that we'll take with us into 2026?
Well, we've rounded up our 15 favourites from the last 12 months, including the TV inspired memes (thank you BBC for two series of The Traitors) and those that come seemingly out of nowhere and yet take over our lives (6-7 we're looking at you).
Here at the very best memes of 2025.
The best memes of 2025
The Traitors Alexander singing
The Traitors' Alexander became a national treasure after his arrival on our screens during the third season of BBC's The Traitors and nothing cemented his place further in our hearts than when he sung during one of the challenges. We can still hear the 'spurburwurbur'.
Kendrick Lamar's Super Bowl performance
February kicked off with a Super Bowl performance to remember when Kendrick Lamar took to the halftime stage in February and performed a medley of his biggest hits. From his bootcut jeans to name-checking Drake, it provided endless memes in the week after.
Recession indicators
The cost of living crisis continued in 2025 but at least we got some good memes out of it right? Recession indicator memes have consistently been the gift that keeps on giving as the year progresses with people joking about pop culture moments that suggest we are living in a recession as they feel like a return to another time, such as the return of quarter zip jumpers or Taylor Lautner starring in a Prime Video series about werewolves.
Katy Perry kissing the ground after returning from space
Another big celebrity moment this year was Jeff Bezos' all female space flight in April that saw Katy Perry, Gayle King, Lauren Sanchez, Aisha Bowe, Amanda Nguyen and Kerianne Flynn go on an 11 minute trip to space. Naturally, the moment prompted many memes from Katy Perry kissing the Earth upon her return, to people hoking about the shortness of the trip and how stunned Gayle King looked upon landing.
100 men vs 1 gorilla
It's a debate you may have had in your own life, 'who would win in a fight - 100 men or 1 gorilla' but now it's gone viral with everyone debating the big question, and creating some great memes in the process. Our money is still on the gorilla.
All the Pope memes
Back in May following the death of Pope Francis, a new Pope was to be appointed prompting what many people felt like was the movie Conclave coming to life, and then of course came many memes in the interim between the new Pope Leo being appointed.
It's not clocking to you
In June this year Justin Bieber was papped leaving Malibu's Soho House and when speaking to photographers said to them, "You’re not getting it. It’s not clocking to you. It’s not clocking to you that I’m standing on business, is it?" The moment went viral instantly and has now become part of our phrasing for the last six months.
Holy airball
Holy airball has been one of the biggest TikTok trends of the year, with people non-stop creating videos about someone underestimating them, only to show the reality of the situation or assumption by the end of the video.
Nothing beats a Jet2 Holiday
Honestly, nothing does. 2025 TikTok was undoubtedly taken over by the theme song from the Jet2 Holiday advert and people using it to stitch along with things that not happy and cheery like a Jet2 Holiday, such as trip disasters or a phone smashing.
The Coldplay kiss cam
We all remember where we were when this moment broke the internet. Back in the summer Coldplay were touring and as part of one of their shows, they had a kisscam that scanned onto one seemingly happy couple, with a man standing behind a woman and the pair cuddling up and swaying to the music. However, as soon as the kisscam went onto them the pair ducked out of view, and thus spurned a million memes. It turned out the pair in the video were (now ex-) Astronomer CEO and married man Andy Byron and his HR chief, Kristin Cabot.
Belly's engagement ring
The Summer I Turned Pretty final season aired this summer and as part of it we saw Jeremiah propose to Belly. Not only was the internet furious the wrong Fisher brother had proposed but they also hated the ring he did it with, because it was so 'small'.
24 karat gold Labubu
If you've been on TikTok in the last six months you will surely have heard the phrase '24 karat gold Labubu' which was first said by TikToker @lilzbullzmarbella2 who was showing the rare Labubu she had. And since her post people have taken the sound to show things at most definitely not Labubus such as their dogs, babies or in the case of Joe Jonas, his brother Kevin.
Labubu matcha Dubai chocolate
Labubus were so big this year they got two major memes. The Labubu matcha Dubai chocolate meme propped up around summer and is essentially a way to indicate an over excessive use of memes and spamming of trends we've come accustomed to, by combining three of the biggest trending products this year.
The Jon Hamm dancing
A late addition for one of the best memes for 2025 is Jon Hamm's dancing. Over on TikTok people have been using the sound and clip of Jon Hamm dancing in the TV show Your Friends and Neighbors to show how happy they feel when something glorious happens such as a meeting being cancelled or when a dog likes you and it likes no one else.
6-7
And finally we cannot get through a roundup of the best memes of 2025 without mentioning the number of the year - 6 7. No, it is not pronounced 67 but six seven and if you haven't heard of it then spoiler alert you may be in an older age demographic (or just not chronically online). It quite literally has no meaning but was first featured in the song 'Doot Doot' by Skrilla, however, that hasn't stopped every kid on the internet and IRL saying it over and over again.
2026 we can't wait to see the memes you come up with.
