Shetland is officially back for its tenth season. The TV show, which is beloved by fans of police dramas like Trigger Point and Karen Pirie, has been running since all the way back in 2013. And we're seriously obsessed with the new season.
This time around sees Calder and Tosh begin the investigation into the death of retired social worker Eadie Tulloch in the small hamlet of Lunniswick, with nearly every person in the village being treated as a suspect and as the pair get deeper into the crime, they realise this small town is holding a lot of secrets.
And with a new crime means new cast, so here's everything to know about the new cast for Shetland season 10 and of course all the details on the returning cast.

Ashley Jensen as DI Ruth Calder
Who is DI Ruth Calder? DI Ruth Calder is one of the main characters of Shetland. She's a Shetland native but has returned to the area after some years working for the Metropolitan Police in London for twenty years. She replaced lead investigator Jimmy Perez from season 8, onwards.
What else has Ashley Jensen been in? You may well recognise Ashley Jensen as Christina in Ugly Betty, Maggie in Extras and Agatha in Agatha Raisin.
Alison O’Donnell as DI Alison ‘Tosh’ MacIntosh
Who is DI Alison ‘Tosh’ MacIntosh? DI Alison ‘Tosh’ MacIntosh was formerly a Detective Sergeant on the team but was promoted in later seasons of the show. She's been working on the Lerwick Police Station team since the beginning of the show, and audiences have seen her grow in maturity and confidence. This season, she goes on a journey as she grapples with a personal conflict.

Steven Robertson as DC Sandy Wilson

Who is Cora McLean? Cora McLean is a forensic pathologist who utilises her medical expertise to help the Shetland police on crime scenes.

Angus Miller as Donnie

Who is PC Alex Grant? PC Alex Grant is one of the younger team members on the Lerwick Police Station team.

Eubha Akilade as PC Lorna Burns

Who is Procurator Fiscal Matt Blake? Procurator Fiscal Matt Blake is a Scottish public prosecutor and will decide whether crimes should be prosecuted in the public interest.

Clive Russell as Arthur Mair
Who is Arthur Mair? Born and bred in Shetland, Arthur Mair spent most of his working life on the oil rigs. Kind, caring and uncomplaining, Arthur is very much a ‘doer’ rather than a ‘talker’. Family is important to Arthur, and he has a particularly close relationship with his granddaughter Jess, as well as being the sole carer of his wife Lana, who has vascular dementia.

Ellie Haddington as Lana Mair
Who is Lana Mair? Originally from Aberdeen, Lana moved to Shetland when she met her husband, Arthur, where she also became close friends with Eadie Tulloch. Before the tragic loss of her son Ally over two decades ago, Lana was a positive and warm person. However, Ally’s death took its toll on Lana as she was overwhelmed with grief. In the past few years, Lana has developed dementia and requires support from her family.
What else has Ellie Haddington been in? Ellie Haddington played Josie Clarke in Coronation Street in 1995 to 1996. From 2016 to 2022, she played Julia's mother on Motherland.
Niall Macgregor as Tom Jameson
Who is Tom Jameson? Stoic, tacit and unemotional, Tom believes in actions rather than words. Due to a recent heart condition, he’s been unable to work for 18 months, and has been forced to move in with his in-laws, Arthur and Lana Mair, along with his wife Isobel and pregnant teenage daughter Jess. He’s a conflicted and complex character who’s struggling to adapt to his new reality. As a person who always prided himself on providing for his family, Tom’s unsure of who he is anymore.

Louise Brealey as Isobel Jameson
Who is Isobel Jameson? Born and bred in quiet hamlet of Lunniswick, Isobel is cheery and hard-working, always putting others before herself - especially her family. Isobel believes that in spite of all the struggles her family is going through – husband Tom’s illness, her mother’s dementia, daughter Jess’s unplanned pregnancy – it’ll all come good once her first grandchild arrives. Isobel is hopeful that a new life will bring much-needed joy and focus to the family. However, her optimism will be tested to the limits when tragedy casts a shadow over Lunniswick.

Lila Rose as Jess Jameson
Who is Jess Jameson? The only child of Tom and Isobel Jameson, teenager Jess is a perfect mix of both her parents, possessing her father’s temper and her mum’s optimism. Jess is an excellent student and was all set for university until she fell pregnant. Partly due to pressure from her mother, Jess decided to keep the baby. However, with the birth date looming, Jess feels increasingly exiled and is starting to have second thoughts about motherhood.

Greg McHugh as Colin Waite
Who is Colin Waite? A well-known local figure, Colin Waite knows everyone in Lunniswick - and their business. That’s why, for some, he’s seen as nosey and a bit judgemental. In recent months, Colin has thrown himself into pulling together the history of the village. Through his research chats, Colin grew close to murder victim Eadie, looking out for her when others turned a blind eye. So, for all his faults, Colin can be kind and thoughtful. That doesn’t change the fact he’s a little eccentric and peculiar.

Frances Grey as Gina Powell
Who is Gina Powell? Life hasn’t always been easy on Gina Powell, especially not of late. Gina can be guarded and untrusting, but she wasn’t always this way – her life took a turn for the worst after her husband was sent to prison for armed robbery and then abandoned her on his release, leaving Gina to raise their son, David, alone. Feeling judged by the locals, Gina distanced herself from her neighbours and has a reputation for being prickly and unapproachable. David is the sole focus in Gina’s life and his recent prison stint has stirred up painful memories from the past, making her more anxious and fearful than ever.

Stephen McMillan as David Powell
Who is David Powell? Painfully shy, lacking in confidence and easily influenced, David spent the last eighteen months in prison serving time for housebreaking. Since his release, David has been living back with his mum, Gina, in Lunniswick and is trying to recover from his ordeal. Despite David’s criminality, he is not a bad person. He has made poor choices and this, combined with some bad luck, has sent him down the wrong path. Lonely and anxious, David struck up an odd friendship with Eadie but her murder will bring heartbreak and unwanted attention to him. All David wants is to rebuild his life but that’s easier said than done.

Saskia Ashdown as Hayley Burnett
Who is Hayley Burnett? Hayley and her family have travelled to Lunniswick for a family holiday, however, they soon find themselves caught up in the drama of Eadie's murder.

Gabriel Akuwudike as Chris Burnett
Who is Chris Burnett? Chris is Hayley's husband and manages to insert himself into the investigation after revealing he saw a young man near Eadie's house to the police.
What else has Gabriel Akuwudike been in? You'll most likely recognise Gabriel from his role as Hagen in Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, as well as starring in the series Hanna and Screw.
Stuart Townsend as Edward ‘Ed’ Tulloch
Who is Ed Tulloch? Handsome and charming, Ed Tulloch has a certain undeniable allure about him. In his younger years, Ed was a successful poet and his work is well-known across the Shetland Isles. These days, he’s a businessman in the drinks trade but poetry is in his DNA. Ed’s grief about his mother’s murder is tinged with regret as he had become estranged from Eadie in recent years. For all his charm and easy humour, there’s a sadness to Ed and it’s clear there’s something deeper underneath.

Who is Morag McCabe?: After 10 seasons we will finally get to meet Billy's wife, who knew the victim Eadie.
