The Celebrity Traitors is back with a bang, and if last night’s episode was anything to go by, this is set to be one of the best seasons yet. The star-studded lineup promises drama, conspiracy, and a whole lot of fun.
Paloma Faith played a central part in last night’s episode as she fell victim to Alan Carr's first murder. However, the star has spoken out about her experience on the show, and how filming actually took a huge toll on her mental health. But, who actually is Paloma Faith? How did she shoot to fame and what has she been up to recently? This is everything you need to know about the singer.
Paloma's experience on The Traitors
Speaking to The Sun on Sunday, Paloma confessed that she was "surprised at the psychological impact" it had on her. She explained, "I thought that I would be able to keep thinking it was a game but when you get in it you are quite isolated for a long time from the outside world as you are not allowed contact".
It’s not hard to empathise with Paloma’s situation, as The Traitors is no regular reality show. The BAFTA-winning concept follows contestants as they take part in challenges to win a staggering cash prize. They must simultaneously avoid murder by so-called ‘traitors’ who hide in the group’s midst, and work together to find out exactly who the back-stabbers might be. What starts as an innocent cash prize competition quickly descends into a game of collusion, conspiracy, and treachery - that’s enough to leave a mark on anyone’s mental health.
Paloma highlighted this aspect of trust which is so important in the game, saying "it is quite unsettling when you feel like everyone you know might not be as trustworthy as they seem - everyone is playing a game and it is hard to rationalise".
Fellow faithful, Stephen Fry, expressed similar sentiments on The One Show last month. Whilst not a lover of typical reality shows, his participation in The Traitors stemmed from his interest in the "human mind" and what the show can reveal about its "vulnerability, its fragility, and its failure".
However, it wasn't all bad! It seems on top of her friendship with Alan, Paloma was able to forge some strong connections with the other contestants, revealing Niko and Ruth as her two "favourites", despite her short time on the programme.
In any case, we’re glad she was able to access the help she needed and felt taken care of throughout the process.
