After eight weeks of sleeper buses, homestays and all kinds of odd jobs (never forget when Melvyn and Brian had to pick up manure with their bare hands) Race Across the World crowned mother and son duo Caroline and Tom as the series' winners. And now they've revealed how they plan to spend the winning prize fund of £20,000.
The pair won the series by just 19 minutes, beating fellow competitors and sisters Elizabeth and Letita to race to the tip of India known as Kanniyakumari. Coming in third place were young couple Fin and Sioned, and finishing in fourth were brothers Brian and Melvyn. The whole group raced for 51 days, starting at the Great Wall of China, before ending their journey in India.
Having been crowned the winners during last night's episode [11 June], the pair were elated with their achievement, with Tom, 21, saying: "It's a pretty good feeling. I am lost for words I can't believe it.
"Fifty-one days racing through countries that I never thought I'd go to, I never thought we'd come this far, I never thought we'd achieve so much and I've never been prouder of my mum - she got me through it."
And Caroline, 60, was equally as happy and proud, saying: "It feels absolutely amazing, I’m so sad it’s come to the end, that is the worst bit about it. We’ve enjoyed being with everybody but my God this race has meant so much.
"We’ve learnt so much, we’ve enjoyed it and to actually win it as well as to have the experience is the best thing that could have happened to us."
As for what they plan to use the money for? Well the pair are off travelling again, this time with a phone.
Speaking of their plans Tom said: "I don’t want to be stupid and waste it. Mum and I want to go backpacking again so some of it will be used for that.”
And earlier today while speaking on BBC Radio Suffolk, Caroline said they had plans to backpack in Kazakhstan, before adding it will just be the two of them as "we like to walk and be impulsive and we don't mind roughing it."
Caroline added they would also be using some of the money to fund a business of Tom's which he had been planning before the race.
