I'm talking low-effort, high reward: less time heat styling and more time loitering in the sun – all without compromising on aesthetic.
To get the lowdown, we spoke to a number of expert hairstylists who shared their thoughts on the cuts that are not only trending right now but blessedly easy to live with. Think shapes that grow out gracefully, textures that do their own thing and styles that look – dare I say – slightly better undone. You and your fresh low-maintenance 'do can thank me later...
Blonde marbling
Going blonde is no mean feat, and its upkeep can sometimes feel like a full-time job. The solution? Blonde marbling, a low-maintenance alternative to achieving that same sun-lit hue without the hassle. Hairstylist and owner of Cobella salon, Jordanna Cobella, says that "it's a sophisticated colour technique that layers beige, cream and soft gold tones to create a seamless, natural-looking blend," often weaving together shades like tobacco and teddy bear blonde. And thanks to its lived-in roots and softly diffused finish, it grows out without harsh lines, making it ideal for anyone craving a softer, more relaxed blonde.
Soft crop
The soft crop is a popular style among Jordanna's clients as of late, and as she describes, is "a textured, layered pixie or mixie with curtain bangs and natural volume," but without the usual edgy sharpness. What makes it low-maintenance is its adaptability. "It doesn't require overly precise styling and can be worn in a more relaxed, undone way," Jordanna tells us, making it particularly suited to those with natural texture. That said, regardless of your hair type, it works just as well for anyone wanting a shorter style that still feels feminine and flexible.
Round bob
When it comes to hairstyles, sometimes, the wheel need not be reinvented... Enter: The round bob. This style is a sleek, timeless classic, defined by its cheekbone-hugging length with subtle front layers that open up the face. For the finish, softness is achieved through the ends, so it naturally falls into that rounded shape. In terms of maintenance, Jordanna says that it's "relatively low-maintenance as the shape does a lot of the work, making it easy to style day to day." Consider me sold! "It’s trending this spring as we’re seeing a resurgence of polished, 90s-inspired hair, but with a softer, more wearable finish," she adds. Need I say more?
Airlight layers
For those emotionally attached to their length, long layers – also dubbed airlight layers by Jordanna –offer a gentle upgrade. "They’re woven in almost invisibly to create movement while maintaining fullness," she says, meaning hair feels lighter without looking thin. "This style works across most hair types, especially if you want softness and shape without sacrificing length, plus, it’s refreshingly low-maintenance, enhancing your natural texture whether you air-dry or loosely style." As spring leans into healthy, touchable hair, this look ticks every box: timeless, effortless and quietly doing the most without making a scene.

Kicktail bob
When spring hits, short hair feels like a very good idea. Hi, hello, less weight, less effort and more shape. So, with the kicktail bob encompassing all three, there's no better cut for the season. The style is a sophisticated evolution of the "cloud bob", designed to give volume and shape without heaviness. Senior International Creative Director Mark Hayes explains that it's defined by its compact square line, with interior lengths that are softened to create a light texture, perfect for creating the illusion of thicker strands on finer hair types.
Classic shag
The 70s are so back – flared, feathered and fully committed – and yes, you guessed it, leading the charge comes the shag. But beyond its retro credentials, did you know it's actually a great low-maintenance cut? Here's the appeal: It actually improves with a bit of neglect... As it grows out, the layers soften, the texture gets piecier, and the whole thing leans further into the current yet effortless "lazy luxury" hype. Top tip: Keep some texturising spray on hand whenever you want to rough up the texture.
