Confession: I never thought I'd be recommending a Next perfume – let alone calling it a hero fragrance – but here we are. Quietly and consistently, the high-street stalwart has been turning out genuinely good scents, and Eau Nude Eau de Parfum is one of its strongest yet. And sitting at £10, it's proof that smelling expensive doesn't have to come with buyer's remorse... AKA, you can spray with abandon!
The scent is warm, floral and fruity in equal measure – name a better trio, I'll wait. It opens with a bright hit of raspberry and mandarin, juicy but controlled, before moving into a classic floral heart of jasmine and rose. Nothing here is trying to reinvent the wheel, and that's exactly the point. It's smooth, familiar and immediately likeable.
As it dries down, patchouli, amber, powdery musk and vanilla come through, giving the fragrance a softly sensual base that feels far more premium than the price tag suggests. This is where Eau Nude really comes into its own: comforting, confident and oh so impressive.
You may have heard whispers (read: seen the reviews) that it's like a dupe for Chanel Coco Mademoiselle – and we can confirm it is; however, Chanel absolutely deserves her flowers. The original remains iconic for a reason. Eau Nude isn't pretending to be the same; it simply captures a similar polished, crowd-pleasing energy. You could say: Inspired by, not identical.
Another point in its favour is lasting power. Because this is an eau de parfum, it has a higher concentration of fragrance oils than a toilette, meaning better longevity. A few spritzes in the morning, and it's still very much present by late afternoon.
The verdict? Eau Nude is proof that Next knows exactly what it's doing when it comes to fragrance. So, if you're in need of a failsafe, everyday scent, look no further.
