In una nottata che ha visto trionfare i BTS con ben tre premi (ovvero best duo/gruppo pop, miglior canzone pop preferita e artista dell'anno), a farla da padrone sul palco degli American Music Awards 2021 in realtà sono state le nuove leve del mondo della musica, le cui esibizioni hanno spesso oscurato quelle dei colleghi molto più blasonati. Ma lo diciamo subito: i BTS con Butter sono stati pazzeschi e non smetteremo di amarli, bravissimi anche i Coldplay (con i quali la band coreana si è esibita sulle note di My universe) e Jennifer Lopez con On my way, divina come sempre.

Il magic touch dimostrato dai Maneskin con Beggin (i quali non si sono aggiudicati il premio come Favorite trending song), Olivia Rodrigo con Traitor, Chlöe con Have Mercy e Giveon con Heartbreak Anniversary è stato però speciale e merita un plauso, poiché sono state proprio le nuove leve della musica a regalarci i momenti più emozionanti di tutta la cerimonia, facendoci venire la pelle d’oca e le lacrime agli occhi così come il desiderio di saltare sul divano e scatenarci, dimostrandoci che la bella musica è trasversale e non teme distinzione di genere o di età. La conduzione di Cardi B i cui look non hanno tradito le aspettative, è stata molto più low profile di quanto ci si potesse aspettare. E questo, forse, proprio per fare in modo che a parlare fosse la musica dal vivo, rimasta in silenzio troppo a lungo.

Proprio in questi giorni che Covid e i due anni di distanziamento sociale sembrano tornare più prossimi, nemmeno gli AMAs di quest’anno hanno ricordato lontanamente quelli pomposi ed esagerati dei tempi passati, caratterizzati da esibizioni imponenti, scenografie pazzesche e ospiti a sorpresa, ma anche da abiti indimenticabili e siparietti trash. La cerimonia di quest’anno è stata discreta ma non per questo meno bella, poiché ci ha dato la possibilità di riassaporare delle performance live davanti a un pubblico urlante e saltante il che, dopo due anni di chiusura forzata, è già un grande traguardo.
