If you, like me, were devastated to learn that Sydney and Mikey got back together after Temptation Island season 2 wrapped, I have some good news for you: Things may not be over with her Kona connection. During part two of the Temptation Island season 2 reunion (which premiered on The Viall Files podcast on April 24), Sydney gave an update on where she and Xzavier stand today…and whether there’s any hope for a romantic future.
First, a quick recap, in case you need to get caught up to speed: After a misunderstanding that took place during the first bonfire (Sydney heard Mikey tell the Three Amigos, “My biggest fear is falling for one of you,” but according to Mikey, he actually said, “My biggest fear is Sydney thinking I’m falling for one of you”), Syd decided she was done with Mikey. She then fell for Xzavier, with the two even opting to leave paradise together.
However! As was revealed during part one of the reunion special, Sydney ended up breaking things off with Xzavier four days later…and then getting back together with Mikey. The two gave their relationship another try for about three months before splitting yet again, and according to Sydney, she and Xzavier have been back in contact for the past four months. But where do they stand now?
Part two of the reunion opened with a video message from Xzavier, where he tells Sydney, “Hey, Syd. Just wanted to say I’m thinking about you today and wish you the best at the reunion. You know, just be yourself, like you always are, and you know you’re going to be good. You know you’ve got a kind heart, gentle soul, and I’m rooting for you.”
When Nick Viall then asked Sydney whether “there is a chance that you and Xzavier might become a real couple,” she kept things vague…but she did say “there is a possibility in the future.”
As she explained, “I think we just need to take some time without the cameras being in front of us and just really build a stronger connection outside of the villa.” And though she’s currently based in North Carolina (while Xzavier lives in Los Angeles), Sydney definitely sees a future for herself on the West Coast.
During a joint interview that Sydney and Xzavier did with Swooon (which took place on April 13), the two explained that they haven’t put a label on their relationship yet, but they’re excited to see where things go.
“I’m very big on just being with my person, and…just doing things with [Xzavier] is what I’m really looking forward to,” Sydney said. “And it’s been really hard not being in the same area or the same space anymore, so my goal is to move to L.A….and we’ll see where it goes from there.”
Xzavier expressed a similar sentiment, saying, “Her lease is up in North Carolina. She’s thinking about coming out this way…[but] we’re not putting the pressure on that. That being said, we are intentional. We’re growing what we do have and seeing what that looks like.”
