The first official trailer for The Odyssey has taken the internet by storm. Why is it in American English? Meh, whatever. Is Charlize Theron playing Calypso or Circle? Still unsure. But one thing I’m very sure about is that despite all the possible changes and what if’s with this film, Christopher Nolan should be giving us the Robert Pattinson/Tom Holland ship that we so rightfully deserve.

Robert Pattinson is playing Antinous, a man who is hoping to take over as Ithaca’s king by marrying its queen, Penelope (Anne Hathaway). In the trailer, it’s very clear that Telemachus (Tom Holland), the son of Odysseus, AKA the missing king, is trying to help his mother by keeping her suitors at bay. But when R-Patz’s Antinous tells Telemachus, “You’re pining for a daddy you didn’t even know like some sniveling bastard,” something changed in me. The tension… I absolutely cannot get enough! And I’m not the only one thinking this either.

Listen, Antinous should honestly be going after Telemachus who, with all his very obvious daddy issues, is, well, looking for…one… In trying to become the King of Ithaca, he would become Telemachus’s stepfather. But he could also become a different kind of daddy if he worked at his goal by going after Telemachus instead of Penelope. I’m just saying, if they kissed, many they would be feeling differently about each other.

Others on X (formerly Twitter) have rightfully pointed out that Antinous is one of the worst characters to ship anyone with, especially due to his history of sexual assault in the story. Dark ships have long existed in media and have gotten more popular as dark romance has become a much more accepted genre. There’s already several fanfic works that exist of the “couple” on Archive Of Our Own. Meanwhile, with so many changes in this adaptation already, there’s no telling if Christopher Nolan will be following the character exactly like in epic.

So, basically, while I’ll be living my dreams through fanfiction until July, it’s not too late, Christopher Nolan. Maybe we should listen to the fans this one time.
