If you've been keeping up with our fashion content, you'll know that we've been *screaming* about the cobalt blue colour since at least February. From being the statement shade for winter knitwear to drawstring trousers for spring, it's also slipped into our summer wardrobes, be it in the form of stitched mule sandals or crochet ballet flats.
Of course, there's a reason for this: the colour appeared on the spring/summer 2026 runways at the likes of Victoria Beckham, Loewe, Jil Sander, Chanel and more. Which meant the first couple of months of this year saw both Bella Hadid and Amelia Gray rep the hue out and about. In short, these 'It' girls sealed the deal, and confirmed cobalt blue was to be the shade of the year — not just the season.
And despite being such a maximalist colour, there are so many ways to style it. While we're not pining for the colder months just yet, a knitted cobalt blue cardy and jeans make for the perfect casual look. Or, an asymmetric skort in the colour would be ideal for spring. For those cool summer evenings, it's all about pleated balloon trousers with a simple white fitted tee. And as we filter into autumn, colour block in a cinched column dress.
In terms of the latter, for those of you who want to prepare your September/October wardrobes, we've got just the staple. Marks & Spencer has just dropped the most elegant column dress in this exact colour — and at £42, it looks way more expensive than it actually is.
Features include a sleeveless design for a classic regular fit, plus a timeless crew neckline. The cinched waistline provides a sleek silhouette, while the button closure at the back completes the seamless design. Honestly, it's giving classic and contemporary, and a piece that wouldn't look out of place in K-Mid's wardrobe.
