Actor Lucy Davis has shared the deeply sad news that she has been diagnosed with incurable breast cancer at the age of 53, which has now spread to her bones.

Best known for her roles in The Office (in which she played Dawn), Shaun of the Dead's Dianne and Hilda in The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Davis posted the news to her 589,000 Instagram followers, along with an inspiring message about how she's processing the news.

"A year and a half ago I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Breast Cancer, which has metastasized to my bones," she said. "Specifically to my spine, right hip, and my ribs. The cancer is incurable, and too late for chemo.

"As of now, I’m trying to live out whatever might be left of my life in as fun a way as I possibly can. I always like to find the teachable moments in anything negative that happens. And cancer has not disappointed in that regard; there’s a lot I have learned from it, and I’m grateful for that."

Davis continued on to say that humour has been lifeline during her health struggles, and that she has encouraged her loved ones to avoid treating her like a "sick person – there’s nothing that will make you feel more unwell than being treated as if you’re unwell".

"As some of you will know, the pain can really be something else. Standing and walking for too long a time can be hard, and I need to use a wheelchair sometimes (so if you see me toddling around in one, feel free to give me a push!)," she wrote.

Everyone's clicking on...

Davis also urged her followers to get checked, saying that her lump felt more like a "hard spot" than a 'lump', and said she's "not scared of whatever comes next, I’m at peace with it. I’ll see my Gracie [much-loved dog] sooner than expected, and for me, leaving my physical body just means going home."

Our thoughts are with Davis and her family, including her father, comedian Jasper Carrott, mother and siblings, Jenny and Jake.
