There's one thing spotting a correlation among celebrity nails (we've collectively lived through ballet blush, pearl nudes and every sheer pink in between), but when the data starts piping up? That's when you know a trend has escaped the celebrity manicure industrial complex and entered the real-life group chat.
Welcome to watermelon season.
According to Fresha, the platform that connects individuals with local salons, barbers, medspas, and wellness studios, searches for 'watermelon nails' have skyrocketed by a juicy 767 per cent over the last three months. Which can only mean one thing: we're all desperate to become a little more fruit-coded.
But we're hardly surprised. Beauty has spent the last few months in the throes of a full-blown produce renaissance. From peach hues to coconut latté shades, our manicure moodboards are starting to look suspiciously like aisle 15 in Grimsby's big Tesco. And now, it's watermelon stepping up to the plate – or rather, the picnic blanket.
The beauty of watermelon nails is that they don't have to look like you've painstakingly painted a fruit salon on each fingertip. Instead, think translucent jelly finishes, juicy pinks, milky washes with a touch of green at the tip or, if novelty nail art is more your thing, subtle seed-like dots. They're equal parts kitsch, chic and oh-so summer-appropriate.
Frankly, if your manicure doesn't look deliciously edible by August, are you even participating in summer?
