We may still be squeezing the last drops out of summer (hi, hello the long-awaited August Bank Holiday weekend!!), but one look at Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh's latest manicure and we're already mentally shopping for knitwear. Get your pumpkin-spiced lattes at the ready, folks!

In a recent Instagram post announcing the royal's new role, Sophie debuted a rich chocolate brown nails, and frankly, we're obsessed. "The Duchess of Edinburgh has taken on a new role as Royal Patron of Visualise Scotland, an Edinburgh-based organisation dedicated to assisting adults living with visual impairment and complex disabilities across Edinburgh and the Lothians," the post wrote.

Continuing, they said: "A new portrait of The Duchess has also been released by Buckingham Palace to mark the announcement.💙"

The warm, glossy shade is a far cry from her usual Japanese manicure, AKA the ultra-natural, polish-free technique she so often favours. This time, she's gone for colour. Like, actual visible colour. Who is she and what has she done with our minimalist duchess?!

The deep brown is particularly striking against her cream outfit, creating a bold little hit of contrast without feeling remotely shouty.

And, conveniently, chocolate brown is very on trend for autumn 2026. After seasons of milky pinks and barely-there neutrals dominating our fingertips, richer, warmer shades are back on the agenda, bringing with them that slightly nostalgic, cosy feeling we're already craving.

Basically, Sophie has made a compelling case for putting the summer brights away and embracing our autumnal era early. And honestly? I say bring on the rain!
