Summer has a way of making us all gravitate towards the same things. Airport trousers. Raffia bags. And apparently, understated nails that look like very expensive coconuts... Vita Coco could never.
Anne Hathaway is leading the charge on the coconut nail front, having attended the world premiere of Warner Bros' The End of Oak Street in California over the weekend wearing a sheer, milky manicure with an almost wet-looking gloss. It has been dubbed the "coconut jelly gloss mani" by her nail artist Tom Bachik, the genius behind some of Hollywood's most sought-after hands, including Selena Gomez, JLo, Hailee Steinfeld and more.
"A Coconut Jelly Gloss Mani for @annehathaway 🥥 for tonight’s “The End of Oak Street” Premiere in Los Angeles this evening 💫 ✨," Tom wrote in the caption of his Instagram post debuting the look, before revealing exactly how he created it.
The secret? It's in the finish. Rather than an opaque white, Anne's nails have a translucent, jelly-like wash of milky colour, topped with enough gloss to make them look perpetually fresh from a manicure appointment.

To recreate it, start with neat, softly shaped nails and apply one to two coats for a sheer wash of colour, allowing each coat to remain slightly translucent. Continue layering for a luscious milky glaze.
Finish with a high-shine top coat, et voilà! Coconut nails good enough to eat – or drink, depending on your preferred method of coconut consumption. Though, for avoidance of doubt, I would stick to the manicure and leave the actual coconut to the kitchen.
