  • Taylor explained she lacked queer representation growing up, causing her to suppress her feelings for years until recently deciding to embrace her authentic self publicly.
  • Most MomTok members celebrated Layla’s announcement with supportive comments and emojis on social media.

The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives’ Layla Taylor is starting a new chapter and letting something off her chest this Pride Month. The MomTok member appeared on the On Purpose With Jay Shetty podcast, where she officially came out as bisexual.

During the conversation, she admitted that she hadn’t told the rest of MomTok because she hadn’t seen them since the show paused production back in March.

“We’ve been — not in a bad place [with] any of us girls. [But] I know that there’s some friendships that are in different places than they have been in the past. I think right now we’ve just been kind of a little separate since just going on that pause from filming. So we just haven’t seen any of them in person,” she explained.

Layla continued, “I feel like me coming out, it’s not really a text. I feel like I want to see them in person to let them know. So they might see this before and then I’ll talk to them in person the next time I see them. But yeah, for right now, no one from the group knows.”

Since the podcast episode dropped on Monday, June 29, several MomTok members (past and present!) have reacted in real time.

Under Jay’s teaser announcing the episode, Jen Affleck commented a series of heart and heart-eyed emojis while Mikayla Matthews dropped some clapping hand emojis. Miranda McWhorter wrote, “my GIRL” with crying and clapping hand emojis, too.

Mayci Neely added, “Can’t wait!!” while her husband, Jacob Neely, even chimed in, “Let’s go” with clapping hand emojis.

Jessi Draper also claimed she couldn’t wait for the episode to drop, while her rumored beau Marciano Brunette dropped a comment, joking, “Let’s see how jay is going to work his magic on this one.”

On top of their sweet comments, Mayci and Jessi also uplifted Layla on their Instagram Stories.

Taylor Frankie Paul and Demi Engemann have yet to react to the news, if at all.

Layla opened up about the revelation during her chat with Jay, saying, “I always had these thoughts and I kind of laugh about it now because I would be watching shows like Pretty Little Liars and I would watch, like, Shay Mitchell kissing a girl. I was like, ‘Wait, why is that hot?'”

“But I didn’t know what those feelings were because I didn’t have queer representation around me of [someone] I could look at it and be like, ‘Okay, this is normal,’” she continued, adding, “I just didn’t have people around me that modeled that.”

“I would just kind of underplay it for a long period of my life,” she later shared. “[Now] I just feel like I’m finally in the era that I’m over not being truly myself and I’m over not showing every part of Layla to the world. I’m very proud now to be out.”
