After months of speculation, it seems that Sebastian Stan finally (reportedly) confirmed his role in the upcoming sequel to The Batman, set to be released on February 18, 2028...and apparently, he spilled the beans to (*checks notes*) Le Journal di Dimanche?
During an interview with the French publication (which was translated from French to English), Sebastian was asked a question about Avengers: Doomsday, to which he (allegedly) replied, “Honestly, I have absolutely no idea...I also can’t say anything about The Batman: Part II, by Matt Reeves, where I play Harvey Dent.” Um???
The quote was later removed from the article (the original quote is visible via the Internet Archive), making us question its validity even more.
While I don’t doubt that the rumors are true and that Sebastian probably is playing Harvey Dent, I’m not as convinced that he explicitly spelled out his role like this. It’s reminding me of Sebastian’s July interview with another French publication, Première, where he was veeeery careful not to confirm anything (even though the journalist went ahead and assumed his role, noting that “he will play prosecutor Harvey Dent, aka Two-Face”).
“No matter the subject or the character, whether it’s a film by Cristian Mungiu or Matt Reeves, you always have to get to the heart of the truth,” he (allegedly) said when asked how he was preparing for his Batman role. “That means understanding what makes a person who they are.”
He later added, “In every case, there’s always a reason, whether the character is a hero or a villain, that explains why they ended up where they are. And in my opinion, finding that reason is what has the greatest impact on the performance.”
It’s giving vague!
As a reminder: It was first announced back in January that Sebastian was “in talks” to join the cast for The Batman: Part II. By May (not long after Sebastian debuted the return of his shaved head at Cannes), Deadline reported that the actor would be taking on the “role of supervillain Harvey Dent”—but once again, Sebastian never explicitly confirmed this.
Some fans even speculated that he might be playing serial killer Victor Zsasz because of his shaved head...but tbh, I think all signs point to Harvey, whether Sebastian did officially confirm this to Le Journal di Dimanche or not.
