If you’re not familiar with tennis phenom Coco Gauff, where have you been?? With 11 career singles titles under her belt at just 22 years old, Coco Gauff is a name you should know, even if you don’t follow tennis. What may not be familiar to you, however, is Coco’s relationship status. Since stepping into the spotlight, the young athlete has only had one public relationship with artist/aspiring actor Jalen Sera, and even that she keeps very under wraps…though she has let the occasional detail or two slip through the cracks. For instance: As she revealed to Time, Coco’s mom was apparently Jalen’s fourth-grade teacher!

September 2023
Two months into their relationship, Coco gave a subtle shoutout to Jalen—well before formally revealing his identity—during the U.S. Open in 2023. Following her win, she told reporters at the event that she was too in her head at her previous performance at the tournament, and that talking with her boyfriend the night before her match gave her all the confidence she needed to succeed.
“Honestly, I didn’t have any of those visions [of winning] ’till last night. You know, I thought about it, but I told myself to get it out of my head, because that’s what I did at French. I was envisioning, you know, what would happen if I would win. I think I wanted it too much,” she said (via People), adding, “Last night, I started a little bit, but honestly, I just called my boyfriend, and I told him, ‘Let’s talk until it’s time to go to sleep,’ so we spoke until 1:00 A.M. and then I went to sleep.”
November 2023
Coco sat for an interview with the Tennis Channel, and sweetly revealed that Jalen gifted her an infinity sign necklace. “My boyfriend gave this to me,” she said. “I’m sure a lot of relationships look up to that symbol [of infinity], so I’m not going to explain that.”
March 2024
Coco gave more subtle details about Jalen without fully giving him away. She told Vogue that some fans of hers think her mans is an athlete like herself but clarified that he has more of an artistic spirit.
“Some people thought it was someone in tennis and that couldn’t be further from the truth,” she shared. “He’s a very nice guy. He’s in school now...He’s about to apply for music school. He wants to be an actor, and he plays the guitar.”
April 2024
Coco finally gave the biggest detail yet about her relationship with Jalen in an interview with Time, explaining that she’s been with her lucky guy for about a year and noted that their bond is special because it’s her “first real relationship.” She added, “to just have someone to talk to who is not involved in tennis at all gives me a fresh perspective.”
Later that month, though Coco and Jalen aren’t publicly official (yet), she hopped on her Instagram Story to wish him a happy 22nd birthday, which he reposted to his own Story.
May 2024
Did Jalen accompany Coco to the 2024 Italian Open in Rome? Signs strongly point to yes. She shared a series of snaps of her all dressed up for a dinner date, and Jalen hopped in the comments section of the post.
Jalen commented, “Nights like this… nights like this,” to which Coco replied, “@jalensera rewind buttons should exist.” Interesting…
June 2025
Surprise! Coco confirms her relationship with Jalen in a promotional video with Bose. She listened to the most adorable audio clip of him saying, “Just wanted to say you’re the absolute coolest person ever. I’m so proud of you. You’re doing great and I love you.”
Naturally, Coco couldn’t stop smiling. “That’s my boyfriend, and today’s actually our two-year anniversary,” she said.
Jalen also made his first appearance on Coco’s Instagram (swipe to photo #4!).
August 2025
Coco opened up about how Jalen supports her after matches in an interview with E!, saying, “Honestly after a good match, I just talk to my boyfriend, my friends, everyone ’cause I’m in a good mood. When I lose, I would say just my boyfriend ’cause he is the only one that can take me and my mood after a loss.”
She continued, “He’s always telling me to trust the process. Just know that I’ve already accomplished a lot, and there’s no need to be so negative. That’s kind of what my whole team, my parents, everybody says. I’m someone that can criticize myself a lot, so I just try to make sure that I stay positive.”

After months without sightings, Coco sparked breakup rumors at the Italian Open when she mentioned some “personal things off court that I’m just trying to get through” during her postgame press conference, per People.
“Then you also remember how much fun you have,” she continued. “I think my regret today was not enjoying the battle, for sure.”
Neither she nor Jalen has confirmed where they stand, but as of July 2026, they no longer follow each other on Instagram, so…it’s very possible these two went their separate ways.
