• Ahead of the Brexit deadline on October 31, The Home Office are calling for certain UK passport holders to renew theirs as soon as possible.
  • If your passport expires in the next seven months (or by May 2020), you won't be able to use it after November 1st. Here's what you need to know.

While there are many, many preparations that go into heading on holiday (inflight skincare routine, a summer wardrobe...), we don't often have to consider whether our passport is going to be valid.

But come October 31st, otherwise known as the Brexit deadline (and potentially the last day we'll be part of the EU), UK passport holders who don't have more than six months on their passport will not be able to travel.

The Home Office is advising those who plan to travel after this date to check when their passport expires, and whether it's valid for at least six months. If it's not, and expires before May? You'll need to renew it as soon as possible.

The government has created a tool to help UK passport holders to check whether their passport allows for travel to Europe after Brexit, and has been texting British passport holders warning them to renew before November.

You can find information on renewing your passport here. It's worth noting it can take up to three weeks for a new passport to arrive, so good to get the process in motion if you've got travel plans soon.
