Mallorca has long had a reputation for city breaks, honeymoons and yoga retreats – and having resisted its wellness pull for years, I finally understand what the fuss is about.

What brought me around wasn't a beach club or a Palma excursion. It was nine women, a glasshouse perched above an olive grove, a cacao ceremony that made me cry in the best possible way, and the kind of clarity that only arrives when you actually take a moment for yourself.

Montuïri: Where to stay

Near the town of Montuïri, twenty minutes from Palma airport, and a world away from the island's coastal noise, Finca Serena is a 40-hectare Michelin Key adults-only estate of vineyards, olive groves, lavender fields and lemon trees.

The 13th-century stone farmhouse at its heart has been restored with natural materials, earthy tones, arched doorways and enough quiet that you notice the birdsong. This is the Mallorca that doesn't compete for the best cove photograph. It smells of earth and almond blossom and it earns every word of praise it's received.

The rooms are spread across the estate in stone cottages and the main farmhouse, each one designed with the same Mediterranean minimalism. Think airy linen, handcrafted ceramics, neutral tones, private terraces overlooking the gardens and vineyards.

I stayed in one of the spacious, double-occupancy cottage rooms with its own sun terrace, al fresco dining spot and sun loungers surrounded by hedges – and I didn't want to leave it.

The interiors are considered without being precious – a rain shower, a pillow menu, a straw bag for carrying your bits from your room to the spa and beyond.

Montuïri: What to do

Daily yoga classes are included in the stay, which alone would justify the trip. There are indoor and outdoor pools, a spa and hammam. I lived in the sauna, sweating out toxins daily and emerging genuinely glowing by the end – plus walking and jogging trails through the lavender fields, olive groves and forest.

The estate produces its own olive oil, wine, uses lemons grown on the farm, and carries homegrown honey from it's sister hotel The Lodge, Mallorca (which I've also stayed and it was incredible). Bicycles are available to rent, and the reception team can arrange excursions – markets, cycling routes, coastal day trips – for anyone who wants them.

I was there specifically for the yoga and wellness retreat led by Lina Jurevičiūtė (@bylinaju), and it was transformative in a way I didn't anticipate.

The programme included daily yoga and meditation, a cacao and breathwork ceremony, inversion therapy, and a sound bath – all held in a stunning glass greenhouse perched on a hill overlooking the town of Montuïri, surrounded by ancient trees, with a sunset view at dusk that made everyone go quiet.

I'm a yoga beginner and I did a headstand. Lina is that good – she accommodated every level, age and flexibility in the room without anyone feeling left behind or pushed too far. I cried in the cacao ceremony. It gave me clarity on things I'd been ruminating on for months and I can't recommend it enough.

The group of about nine women and two men — ages 28 to 58 — was the unexpected highlight. Women going through divorce, recovering from burnout, reconnecting with their bodies after long Covid, reclaiming their independence, experiencing an empty nest for the first time and remembering what they actually love without having to think about anyone else.

A mother and daughter working on their relationship with open hearts. One pregnant woman there with her dad and sister for a babymoon. All of us believing, at least for four days, in the power of slowing down. The retreat runs a minimum of twice a year, with the next one taking place 22–25 October 2026.

Montuïri: What to eat

When I visited in April 2026, Finca Serena had just brought in its first red wine harvest – a light, easy-drinking red that tasted exactly like the landscape it came from. They also produce their own white and rosé. A fun detail worth noting: a glass of wine costs less than a pot of tea here, which tells you everything about the estate's priorities.

The on-site restaurant, Jacaranda, serves seasonal Mediterranean food built around locally caught seafood and produce from the estate and surrounding farms – nourishing, beautifully executed and exactly what you want to eat after two hours of yoga and a sauna.
