There’s something about this time of year that makes us want to wear exclusively cosy, comfy loungewear. Think about it, what's better than snuggling up on the sofa, out of the cold wind and rain, nestled in the chunkiest knit jumper you can get your hands on? Nothing, that's what.

So, on those occasions when we inevitably do have to leave the house, our style pendulum tends to swing to the other end of the spectrum. Sure, cardigans and jeans are a fail-safe outfit combo, but more and more this season, we're finding ourselves craving something a little more elegant, polished and sophisticated.

Enter: a tweed jacket.

Working just as well with your go-to denim as any other top in your wardrobe, a tweed jacket is an inherently timeless design that is the epitome of smart casual. But just because it looks luxury doesn’t mean you have to spend loads to get in on the trend. In fact, we spotted this gorgeous grey boucle jacket from Next for under £50!

The neutral grey colour feels more modern than brown iterations, yet still feels super wearable. Crucially, it will go with all your jeans from light blue washes to dark indigo shades, black for a monochrome vibe and even white and cream, per the model's ensemble.

As for what to wear under your tweed jacket, a simple white T-shirt provides a more casual take while still looking clean. Or, if you want to lean into the formality, try a silky satin blouse, perhaps with a pussy bow necktie detail. Add a pair of kitten heel pointed toe ankle boots and you’re good to go, whatever the occasion that has you stepping out into the winter weather.
