We love it when fashion and functionality marry up to give us a trend that serves to be more than just stylish. The latest practical *and* pretty look we're currently obsessing over? Triangle scarves. And for good reason.
Given the Baltic temperatures we're forced to suffer through during the autumn and winter, a scarf is a must-have in our wardrobes right now. But, rather than a blanket scarf or a long skinny style, the preferred silhouette du jour is a smaller, less-weighty, triangle-shaped design. Most commonly crafted out of wool or knitted fabrics, they're perfect for combating the chill without leaving you a sweaty mess on crowded commutes to work.
When it comes to styling a triangle scarf, there are more options than you might think. Following on from this summer's neckerchief look fashioned out of silk scarves, in autumn and winter, we're knotting our triangle scarves around our necks, leaving the point to hang down our backs when layered over the top of a bomber, trench and any autumn jacket of choice.
Larger scarves sit comfortably around shoulders, adopting more of a shawl look but serving a similarly elegant addition. Neutral colours will work with any outfit, enhancing your overall ensemble with texture and a point of interest, but opting for a colour pop works just as well.
Alternatively, try tucking your triangle scarf under collars with the knot at the back of your neck and the point positioned down towards your chest for a classic take on the trend and maximum warmth.
Or, follow Kendall Jenner's lead and tie yours around your head. The model was spotted earlier this month at Paris Fashion Week with a brown knitted triangle scarf knotted under her chin. Beloved by the late Queen Elizabeth II, the granny headscarf has been regularly championed by Hailey Bieber, too, who alternated between wearing her triangle scarf on her head and around her shoulders while out in New York back in January.
No wonder the Tartan Blanket Company reports the celebrity-approved triangle scarf trend is the brand's bestselling scarf category, with Emma Macdonald, TBCo CEO and co-founder, reporting waiting lists of hundreds of people when the designs first launched in 2024.
The Edinburgh-based label isn't alone, everyone from designer-fave Toteme to high street fave Cos are stocking them.
