Fashion always loves a throwback, which is why recent years have seen a new micro-trend emerge: safety pins.

The humble house-hold item became associated with the punk subculture all the way back in the 1970s and has since been utilised as a subversive symbol in the world of fashion — safety pins are frequently used in designs by fashion label Vivienne Westwood and famously featured in the iconic Versace dress which Elizabeth Hurley wore all the way back in 1994 to the Four Weddings and a Funeral premiere.

Recently, celebs and style stars have been re-embracing the safety pin. Whether it's Dua Lipa rocking a lace skater dress with safety pins zig-zagging up the skirt, Rosalía rocking a white tank top white a safety-pin emblazoned cutout or Miley Cyrus rocking a see-through, futuristic Margiela look to the 2024 Grammys which was baaaaaasically just made from gold safety pins, the practical item has been all over the fashion world lately.

And now, Gigi Hadid is jumping on the trend! In new campaign pics for the Dilara Findikoglu (ie the designer behind that Kylie Jenner "dissolved doll" naked dress look) and Heaven by Marc Jacobs collab, Ms Gigi can be seen modelling a tiiiinnnyyy black bikini crafted from latex-look fabric and featuring a safety pin running between two eyelets on each cup.

The matching bikini bottoms *also* include safety pins, with the high-leg briefs featuring safety pins attached on each side.

We're calling it, this is the best swimwear look of the summer!
