You may have noticed method dressing has currently got Hollywood's biggest screen stars in a chokehold. In short, the trend sees actors dressing like their character on the red carpet, bringing the story to life in a new, very real way. Think Margot Robbie throughout the Barbie press tour, Florence Pugh promoting Dune: Part Two, Zendaya for the former as well as her Challengers run – the list goes on.
Previously, the look has been limited to stars of the film, allowing and encouraging the blurring of boundaries between on-screen and off-screen personas. However, Blake Lively just threw that rule book straight out the window at the Deadpool & Wolverine world premiere held last night [Monday 22 July] in New York.
The actress arrived wearing a red satin catsuit, complete with inbuilt gloves *and* boots, that is giving major superhero vibes. Seriously, give that girl her own Marvel movie, stat.
Obviously, the Atelier Versace strapless design took cues from Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool costume, specifically the red and black colourway. Albeit Blake's outfit is a high-fashion twist on Deadpool's attire, with a chic off-the-shoulder neckline far from suited to mortal combat and replacing the leather patches with intricate beaded embellishments adorning the luxurious fabric. A further nod to the film came from Blake's accessories, as she toted a handbag that resembled a ball and chain.
Admittedly, if Blake had worn this outfit anywhere else, it would be far from a fashion success in our books. But there's no denying the ensemble is perfectly suited to the Deadpool & Wolverine premiere (and only the Deadpool & Wolverine premiere). Plus, the fact Blake's husband plays Deadpool translates this look into a sign of love and marital support. Too cute!
Blake's look has also sparked a rumour this is her not-so-subtle reveal that she is Lady Deadpool, a female counterpart of Deadpool from an alternate reality. Many comic book fans have speculated the character is set to be introduced in the upcoming film after a woman in a Deadpool costume with a blonde high ponytail emerging from the top of the mask was glimpsed in the film's official trailer. Initially, it was believed the mystery actor was Taylor Swift but now we're not so sure...
Everyone's clicking on...
Speculation aside, Blake was back to promoting her own upcoming release – the film adaptation of Colleen Hoover's novel It Ends With Us – with her look for the afterparty. From floral cut-out jeans to a floral embellished sheer black mini dress to a sequinned floral tutu, Blake's red and blue mini dress from Blamain's SS24 collection featuring latex 3D flowers at the neckline and hem is the latest corsage-themed 'fit she's donned in reference to her character, flower shop owner Lily Bloom.
We told you, method dressing is everywhere RN!
