Selena Gomez went long for the VMAs ceremony, wearing a gorgeous red Oscar de la Renta dress with a high-leg slit. But for the after-party, both she and close friend Taylor Swift went short. Gomez showed off the custom purple corset mini-dress from Undone that she changed into on her Instagram Story. She was also photographed out in the look while leaving Diddy’s after-party in New York City. Gomez added an oversized leather coat to keep warm.
Swift and Gomez weren’t seated together at the VMAs, but the two friends’ support for each other went viral during the ceremony. Both were filmed cheering for one another, and photographs of them hugging and talking during the ceremony spread across social media platforms.
The two stars have been friends since 2008. Gomez spoke about how close they are privately to WSJ magazine in January 2020.
“There’s so much of my friendship with Taylor that people don’t know about because we don’t necessarily feel the need to post about everything we do,” she said. “She has showed up for me in ways that I would have never expected. Flown in because I was hurt and was going through something. Stuff that was going on with my family. It’s been proven year after year and in every moment of my life that she is one of my best friends in the world. We don’t agree on everything, but we respect each other with everything."
