Cut-out details are having a *serious* moment, featuring on everything from swimsuits, crop tops and trousers to formal dresses – and practically every item of clothing in between, TBH. But why, you may ask? Well, cut-outs are the perfect nod to the current "naked dressing" and "underwear as outerwear" trends, revealing a bit of skin or flash of thong without *actually* showing too much off at all. Genius, right?
That being said, celebs have been going all out with the cut-outs recently, with some even wearing 'fits that are more cut-out than material. One of Katy Perry's recent looks, for example, featured a grand total of *four* major cut-outs across her chest (and a see-through skirt to boot), while Heidi Klum's outfit for the Jean Paul Gaultier AW23/24 show featured such a major cut-out that it was practically a bikini.
Cut-out dresses really are sweeping the nation, it seems – and reaching some seriously unexpected people too. Case in point: Nicole Kidman, the eternally chic Hollywood actor who attended the launch of Special Ops: Lioness in London last night in a dress featuring one of the biggest cut-outs we've seen.
The Australian-American actress put an elegant spin on the trend, wearing a floor length black Saint Laurent gown with a *huge* cut-out across her chest that revealed her (seriously impressive) abs.
Nicole also ticked off the current corsage trend thanks to the dress' silky flower detail below her neck, while her sheer, elbow-length opera gloves were bang on the money too.
Nicole's co-star Zoe Saldana, meanwhile, went in a totally different direction with her look for the event, rocking a punk-inspired leather and tweed ensemble by Alexander McQueen. Keep the press tour lewks coming, ladies! They make a *very* welcome break from all the pink we're seeing elsewhere...
