In a surprise move that rocked the fashion world (in a good way), everyone’s favourite reality show Love Island said goodbye to its fast fashion sponsors this year, and instead partnered with eBay. Meaning that, instead of donning gifted fast fashion wardrobes, the Islanders are recoupling (sorry) with pre-worn eBay clothing. Celebrity stylist Amy Bannerman was tasked with sourcing all the most glamorous pre-loved fashion the site has to offer, and creating show-stopping vintage wardrobes for the cast. Ermm, talk about a dream gig.
And we’re convinced: the Islanders have never looked more stylish. Tasha’s sparkling green dress, slashed down the sides! Bomber jackets! Gold sequins! The sex appeal is all still there, of course. But this year, it’s also coming from vintage Alaïa and Gucci pieces, not just the famously teeny bikinis. These definitely aren't the dusty old garms you might be thinking of when you think of used clothing: it's actually quite hard to tell which pieces are pre-loved.
Case in point: on last night’s episode, contestant Amber Beckford looked incredible in a lilac micro-mini cutout dress. The label? Poster Girl, the London brand that shot to fame overnight with celeb fans like Kylie Jenner and Dua Lipa. You could have fooled us: if we didn’t know about the pre-loved angle to the show, we’d have thought the on-trend dress arrived in a PR package for the contestants.
The show's stylist Amy Bannerman said, “Poster Girl is a brand which screams Love Island so I was absolutely thrilled we won this dress. When it arrived we found that the seller’s mum had snuck a neatly folded note in to the package, in beautiful handwriting was written 'Difficult to believe this fits an adult human, isn’t it?!' These dresses are teeny when they’re not on a body, so this observation really made us laugh! We love to see Amber looking so beautiful in this dress which has this really personal story behind it."
We can't wait to see what pre-loved looks Amy and the Islanders have dreamed up for us tonight. Psst, feeling inspired? You can shop the Love Island official looks, and Islander-inspired edits, right here on eBay.
