• Maya Jama recreates Diana, Princess of Wales' iconic revenge dress at the 2020 BRIT Awards

There are few things we were expecting to see on the 2020 BRIT Awards red carpet: Billie Eilish expertly debunking the dress code, Lizzo wearing something absolutely fearless, a more than a fair share of naked dresses.

One thing we didn't expect to see, however, was a royal style tribute, but the fashion gods delivered in the most glorious way. Maya Jama took to the BRITs red carpet wearing a stunning LBD (Little Black Dress) by AloNuko that instantly reminds us of Princess Diana's iconic 'revenge dress'.

Featuring luxe, off-the-shoulder straps, a deep-V neckline and an unmissable leg-split, this dress serves all the fire (and then some more):

Add to that elbow-length gloves accessorised with a jewel-encrusted bracelet and this look is oozing all the regal vibes:

As though taking beauty cues from Princess Diana too, Maya kept her makeup low-key, opting for a cat-eye and neutral lip, while wearing her hair down:

For contrast, here's Diana wearing the very similar Christina Stambolian dress - later known as her 'revenge dress' - to the 1994 Vanity Fair party at the Serpentine Gallery:

Diana's dress was referred to as the 'revenge dress' as she stepped out wearing it on the same night Princes Charles' tell-all documentary, Charles: The Private Man, The Public Role, premiered on national TV, in which he reportedly confirmed he hadn't been "faithful and honourable" in their marriage after it had "irretrievably broken down, us both having tried," Reader's Digest reports.

So there you have it, Diana's dress might be over 25 years old but this just goes to show that some looks never date.
