Mary Bedford – AKA the last woman standing from Casa Amor – quite simply stole the show in last night's episode of Love Island.

Finally, we saw the return of the legendary heart rate challenge, in which the Islanders compete – boys vs girls – to see who can get the most hearts racing.

If you thought nothing could top Curtis Pritchard's legendary performance from season five, think again. This time it was Mary Bedford's turn to serve a serious look – and none of us saw this one coming.

While Liberty Poole turned up to the rodeo in a killer cowgirl outfit, followed by Faye Winter as a grid girl, and Millie Court as a dominatrix, Mary seemed to have pulled the short straw.

Wearing a red (and let's be honest, slightly OTT) wig and a mermaid costume that wouldn't have looked out of place at a child's birthday party, it's fair to say we barely recognised her. But let's face it, if anyone can pull off a ~questionable~ fancy dress outfit, it's definitely Mary.

Another Twitter user wrote "I’d be fuming with the producers if I were Mary" alongside two stills: one of Maura Higgins from season five looking slinky in a sexy cat costume, while the other was a blurred shot of Mary in her mermaid get-up.

Another fan pointed out the disparity between Faye Winter's grid girl outfit and Mary's mermaid costume, tweeting, "The outfit they got Faye vs. the outfit they got Mary" with a photo of a young girl wearing a child's mermaid costume.
