Peaky blinders star Charlotte Riley has been cast to play the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, in upcoming BBC2 film, King Charles III.

If you haven't watched the Birmingham-based BBC2 show, you might otherwise know Charlotte as Tom Hardy's wife. NBD.

The drama, which has been adapted from a playscript by Doctor Foster screenwriter Mike Bartlett, will see Charlotte step into Kate's shoes to portray K-Middy.

Charlotte, who is known for her role as horse trainer May Carleton is undoubtedly chuffed about the role "I'm really excited to come on board for King Charles III," she said.

"Kate Middleton is a really interesting woman, particularly within the context of this play, and it is a challenge I am really looking forward to."

King Charles III will show an imagining of Prince Charles's accession to the throne following the Queen's death. In the film, he refuses to sign a controversial bill into law, causing rioting and chaos.
