After almost two (very long) years, Love Island is finally back on our TV screens. Yay! And while the new Islanders settle into the villa to start their summer of love, the rest of us will be settling down on the sofa for a summer of non stop drama. From shock recouplings to dramatic dumpings, and of course types being put on paper, there's literally so much to look forward to.
So, to celebrate the return of everyone's fave reality TV dating show, we decided to take a look back at some of the most surprising exits of the series.
Amy Hart - Series 5
It's safe to say we all thought Amy and her partner Curtis Pritchard were end game. But, after some shady goings on in Casa Amor on Curtis' part, the couple's whirlwind romance came to a dramatic end.
While the pair's split was certainly hard to watch (poor Amy), their breakup birthed perhaps one of the most iconic Love Island lines ever – "I want to be the person that gets up and makes everyone a coffee in the morning." Oh, Curtis.
As model Maura Higgins started to move in on her ex, Amy decided to make a swift exit from the show, telling her fellow Islanders she wouldn't be able to find love in the villa again.
Samira Mighty - Series 4
Samira had a tough time during her stay in the villa in series four. After several unsuccessful recouplings, she finally made a connection with newcomer Frankie Foster.
Soon after they had coupled up, Frankie was voted off the show, leading to Samira's surprise departure. The fan favourite shocked viewers when she decided to quit the villa to follow Frankie and see where things between the pair might lead.
Unfortunately, the couple split just one month later.
Ollie Williams - Season 6
Ollie caused quite the stir before his time on Winter Love Island even began, when photos of him hunting animals surfaced online. Despite the controversy, Ollie still made his way into the villa, resulting in ITV receiving over 400 Ofcom complaints (via Metro).
Ollie left just three days into the series, telling viewers he was still in love with someone on the outside and wanted to "follow his heart".
Niall Aslam - Season 4
Niall was an OG Islander on season four in 2018, but left just a few days into the show for 'personal reasons'.
Since leaving the villa Niall, who has Autism, opened up to fans about what happened on his TikTok account, revealing he'd suffered a stress-induced psychosis.
"I ended up watching Love Island in a psychiatric hospital in London," he told his 69,000 TikTok followers. "What I later found out is that I had stress-induced psychosis... Essentially what it is, you get so overwhelmed that you lose touch with reality."
Malia Arkian - Season 2
Malia, who joined Love Island seven days into the second season, certainly takes the prize for the shortest stay in the villa, ever.
Malia caused a stir in the villa after going on a date with Scott Thomas (who was coupled up with Kady McDermott). A few spilled drinks and a dramatic altercation later, and she was removed from the show on the very same day she'd arrived.
Zara Holland - Season 2
Zara entered the villa in season two as Miss GB. But, after having sex with fellow Islander Alex Bowen in the Hideaway, she was stripped of the crown by pageant bosses.
A few days after receiving the news about her title, Zara learned her mum had taken ill, and chose to leave the show to support her.
Sherif Lanre - Season 5
Sherif joined season five as an original Islander and coupled up with Anna Vakili. But the whole villa and viewers alike were shocked when he was removed from the show after an off-camera altercation with Molly-Mae Hague.
After his departure, Sherif told The Sun: "I did kick Molly-Mae in the groin area, but it was an accident and she 100 per cent was not injured afterwards."
"I turned to Tommy and said, 'That was a **** punt.' I realise now that was wrong and I would like to apologise," he added. Producers said the incident had broken villa rules.
Rykard Jenkins - Season 2
After his partner Rachel Fenton was dramatically dumped from the villa, Rykard shocked his fellow Islanders when he revealed he would leave with her. The pair made things work on the outside, but split 18 months after the show.
