When America’s Next Top Model first premiered in 2003, it helped pioneer the modern reality competition format. Created and hosted by Tyra Banks, the series blended the elimination-style drama of American Idol with the high-stakes world of fashion, becoming one of the defining reality shows of the 2000s and launching several successful careers.

It also gave us unforgettable pop culture moments - from Tyra’s "We were all rooting for you!" outburst to the invention of "smize" (smiling with your eyes).

In recent years, though, the show’s legacy has become more complicated. During the COVID-19 pandemic, viewers revisiting the series began to reassess it through a modern lens, sparking criticism over harsh judging, alleged body shaming, and culturally insensitive challenges, including a controversial race-swapping photoshoot.

After wrapping in 2018 with Cycle 24, many assumed the runway was closed for good. But Netflix’s new documentary, Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model, has reignited speculation, with Tyra hinting the door may not be fully shut.

So, is America’s Next Top Model coming back for Cycle 25? Here’s everything you need to know.

Is America's Next Top Model returning for Cycle 25?

It definitely sounds like it.

At the end of episode three of the docuseries, titled 'Rooting for You', Tyra appears to tease a possible return for the franchise, saying: "After the show I had so many big ideas for my life. I'm obsessed with pivoting and I live in Australia now. I feel like my work is not done. You have no idea what we have planned for Cycle 25."

In 2024, a source close to the 52-year-old host said she had no plans to revive America’s Next Top Model, instead choosing to focus on her SMiZE & DREAM ice cream empire.

However, in an interview that same year with E! News, Tyra hinted that a return might still be possible.

Speaking at the launch party for the swimsuit issue, she said: "We have tried, so it's not us. It's the powers that be. I'm not the biggest boss in the room, so it's not my doing. Maybe one day."

Six years earlier, during an interview about her role in Life-Size 2, Tyra reportedly told EW that she had considered bringing ANTM back for Cycle 25. According to the publication, she suggested it could be the show’s final season and even hinted at the possibility of a second all-stars cycle featuring fan-favourite contestants from past seasons.

While Tyra stopped short of confirming anything outright in the new docuseries, her comments have reignited speculation that the franchise may not be finished yet.
