We love a good adventure TV reality show, and tonight sees the launch of ITV's latest series - The Summit.
Presented by Ben Shephard, The Summit will see 14 people compete to win a share of a prize of £200,000 by scaling one of New Zealand's biggest mountains. They have two weeks to reach the summit and not only do they have to navigate difficult terrain and wild conditions, but they've got a number of challenges set for them by Mountain’s Keeper that will test their nerve and teamwork.
So who will be able to reach that summit? Here's what we know about the cast and our verdict on will fare the best.
Meet the cast of ITV's The Summit
Afton
Age: 24
From: London
Job: Pageant and fitness coach
Why did she sign up for the show?: "I wanted to push myself out of my comfort zone, ground myself and take on a new adventure in order to grow as an individual."
Our verdict: As a fitness coach, Afton has the physical ability to go far in the show, but how will she fare with the tactics? She's also said she's worried about the lack of hygiene, so that could go against her.
Charlett
Age: 38
From: Wiltshire
Job: Pole fitness instructor
Why did she sign up for the show?: "I live for adventure. I have children - they’re now teenagers - I’ve got a dog and a business, so that’s been on the backburner. I haven’t lived for me for the past 16 years. Now they’re older this is an opportunity for me to down tools and have an amazing experience. Winning and prize money aside - what an amazing opportunity. No time like the present."
Our verdict: Again with her background as a pole fitness instructor she's got a physical background to go far on the summit. However, she's worried about being away from home for so long which could be her downfall.
Colleen
Age: 48
From: Port Talbot
Job: Ex-steel worker
Why did she sign up for the show?: "I’m just ready for it! Last year and the beginning of this year, so much has changed for me. I was ready for something to change in my life. I just want to regain myself and take control of who I am."
Our verdict: Colleen says she think she can adapt to any environment which is a super strength to have in this show, however she doesn't like boats. So fingers crossed there's no boats in this show!
Dockers
Age: 36
From: Hull
Job: Senior Construction Manager
Why did he sign up for the show?: "You get three types of people: people that talk the talk, people that walk the walk and people that talk the talk and walk the walk… I’m ex-army. I’m not going to be the fittest guy on this show. But from being in the army, I’ve been in positions where I’ve been cold, wet, hungry, tired and I’ve had to dig deep. So I know when the going gets tough, I’m ready to keep on going. But that was a long time ago. Have I still got that in me? So partly I want to prove to myself I’m good enough to do challenges. Secondly, my kids. They ask me about the army. I don’t talk about it that much to them. But I want to show them, look what your dad can still do. I think it’s going to be amazing for them to see their dad take on the adventure of a lifetime."
Our verdict: With his army background Dockers is likely to go far in a show like this. However, he's admitted he will always challenge someone when he thinks they're wrong so it could create some problems with the group.
Drew
Age: 32
From: North London
Job: Project Manager
Why did he sign up for the show?: For me it’s basically to try to inspire others to push myself to my limits and to show people that if you put your mind to something you can certainly do it. It’s definitely the biggest challenge I’ve ever put myself forward for. I’ve ran marathons and done an Iron Man, but nothing like this before.
Our verdict: With his background having done marathons and Iron Mans Drew stands in good shape to handle the physically taxing part of the show.
Jenny
Age: 46
From: Peterborough
Job: Sales and Marketing Manager
Why did she sign up for the show?: "I felt like I needed a challenge that would push me. I’m a bit of an ‘almost there’ kind of person. There’s something out there that I can be the best at. That’s where it’s come from. I want to achieve and explore and do something that really challenges me. I want to push myself to my limits."
Our verdict: Jenny has a can-do attitude and gets on with people, however she struggles with patience which could potentially lead to fallout with the group. And if she has no allies then she's unlikely to be able to go far in the show.
Joel
Age: 36
From: Loughborough
Job: Sports Coach/Mentor
Why did he sign up for the show?: "I see myself as a very capable person. I wanted to meet people. I wanted to be part of people's journey to do amazing things. And I thought that this would be a good place for me to get some healing, to help people and to be a blessing to others. That was what made me do it [The Summit], I wanted to help someone do something amazing."
Our verdict: As a coach Joel stands in a good position to lead and motivate the team, which will likely see him go far in the competition. However, he also struggles with negativity, and so let's hope he can still keep his spirits high when things get down.
Miranda
Age: 50
From: Northampton
Job: Publican
Why did she sign up for the show?: "I’m always looking to push myself, always. I don’t have one pub, I have two pubs, at one point I had three. It’s all about the next challenge in life, it’s what drives me really. To do something completely out of my comfort zone. I also think I will surprise a lot of people. I have done a lot in my life and want to show people I am far more capable than they give me credit for. I’m 50, and I’m not ready to slow down."
Our verdict: Miranda has spoken openly about the struggles she's gone through in her life and says she's got "grit" so she'll be able to handle the mental side of the contest. However, she's mentioned she's afraid of heights which could make things difficult.
Patrick
Age: 24
From: Milton Keynes
Job: Content Creator
Why did he sign up for the show?: "This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I feel like it follows down the path that I am going down, as I want to put myself out there more. I want people to get to know me more and get to know who I am."
Our verdict: Patrick says he works well in a team which will be handy when it comes to the challenges and gathering allies to make sure he gets far in the competition. However, he's not the biggest fan of heights so that could be difficult if there's any challenges around this.
Sean
Age: 25
From: Liverpool
Job: Customer Service Advisor
Why did he sign up for the show? "I’ve never done anything for me, really. I‘m constantly doing things for other people and I wanted to do something for myself. I used to live and look after my Nan and she told me to go for it."
Our verdict: Sean seems to have a happy go lucky attitude and so his optimism should see him through some tough patches, however he's also got fears of heights, snakes and spiders which he's definitely set to see on the mountain.
Tara
Age: 31
From: Manchester
Job: Social Media Influencer
Why did she sign up for the show?: "I’m a big believer in when something’s for you, it doesn’t pass you by. It’s something I’ve never thought of doing before, it’s putting yourself out of your comfort zone and it’s a challenge. I am at that age now where things have gotten a bit boring. My idea of fun is sat at home watching a film with the cats. That’s my idea of fun. So the more I thought about it, I thought things like this are good for you in life as it shows you how resilient you can be. I wanted to challenge myself and see how I’d get on. It’s once in a lifetime."
Our verdict: Tara has said she's very organised which will work in her favour when it comes to challenges, however, she's also said she's very emotional which could be difficult with so many emotions at play during the show.
Thomas
Age: 29
From: Winchester
Job: Tour Guide
Why did he sign up for the show?: "I want to take on the challenge of the Summit because I feel I have a few things I need answered about myself; can I conquer my fear of heights, am I willing to push myself after I’ve thought I’ve gone far enough and to experience something I’ve never done before."
Our verdict: Thomas says he's good at working and leading a team, however, he will struggle when it comes to the heights element of the show. Maybe he can overcome his fears?
Tyra
Age: 24
From: London
Job: England Football scout
Why did she sign up for the show?: "It’s something new, something different. My life revolves around helping others a lot and being first in their world, supporting them. It’s a very lonely job. I go out to the jobs and watch football. I love watching football, don’t get me wrong, but you’re alone with your notepad. I don’t really have time for myself. So this will be a time for me to find me, and express myself in different ways."
Our verdict: Tyra describes herself as "independent" which means she should be able to get on with a lot of challenges without a lot of help. However, she's also very afraid of insects which is not ideal considering she'll be spending two weeks in the outdoors.
Warren
Age: 52
From: London
Job: Ordained Minister, former Gladiator
Why did he sign up for the show?: "Many reasons. I believe that life begins at the end of your comfort zone and I think if your comfort zone is not expanding, then it’s shrinking. I don’t believe in living a life of fear and so I think we do need to challenge ourselves. I’m on a massive adventure. I came to faith 10 years ago and everything changed for me. Everything I consider or do I pray about. I ask the Holy Spirit to illuminate that and I feel this could be an opportunity from God and an opportunity to grow closer to God. Gladiators was the ultimate challenge, but when I was told this will be an adventure of a lifetime, my ears pricked up. Plus, you’re going to be at your worst… I want to test the mettle."
Our verdict: With his former Gladiator background, Warren is used to being on TV and so that will stand him in good stead. However, he's said he doesn't like the cold, which will be challenging when they're spending nights on the side of a mountain.
