*Contains big spoilers for The Night Manager season 2*
Last night saw the final episode of The Night Manager season two air on BBC One, and honestly we're going to need a minute to recover. The tension-filled finale culminated in the truly shocking death of Angela Burr (Olivia Colman) and we will need three to five business days to get over this.
And that wasn't all: the episode saw Richard Roper killing his son Teddy (Diego Calva), before returning triumphant and back to England, reuniting with his other son Danny (Noah Jupe). Pine was shot in the arm, and the last we see of him is him collapsing in the Colombian jungle.
But despite some things getting resolved, there are a LOT of loose ends we need tying up soon. Thankfully the third season is already confirmed, and so we will hopefully be getting answers to our pressing questions. But in the mean time here's all the questions we want answering as soon as season three comes out.
Who killed Angela Burr?
Is anyone else still sobbing over Angela's death? Yep, us too. And most frustratingly we're still in the dark as to who shot her. The final scenes of the episode saw Angela and her daughter back in their mountain cabin, with Angela looking distressed while on the phone. She then goes outside and we then see her daughter follow her out and Angela shot dead on the ground. Her shooter disappears into the distance.
So who shot her? Was the person who cared out the deed the person who actually wanted her dead or were they simply the assassin who would carry out the work?
How is Pine going to react to Burr's death?
What's perhaps even more upsetting is the fact Pine has no idea of Burr's murder. We're hoping the third season will show us getting Pine's reaction to her death.
Tom Hiddleston, who plays Pine, has opened up to GQ about how he thinks Pine may react to the news, telling the publication: "We haven’t filmed the third season. We’ll film it soon, but we’re still playing with the dials on the story. I know that the place he goes to is very, very dark. He’s had a lot of brushes with death – a lot of pain and suffering for an institution."
Will he take her death as motivation for revenge? And use it to power him? And what is going to happen to her daughter?
Will we see Roxana again?
The last we see of Roxana (Camila Morrone) is a shot of her looking sad at an airport, about to board a flight (likely to Miami. Right now it's unclear if Roxana will make a return for the next season, however, it's not sounding like David Farr, the series creator and writer is looking to bring her back.
Speaking to Variety following the finale, Farr said of Roxana's character arc: "My instinct is that I’m satisfied with that resolution and Roxana’s journey. But the honest truth is that we are still writing the third season as we speak."
It's not sounding overly positive, but we'd be happy to see her back again.
Is Basil alive?
Another character we have a question mark over is Basil. During episode five, we hear a gunshot, and are lead to believe Mayra's men have killed him, after taking him to a deserted place for questioning. However, as we didn't see his body, could we presume that he may still be alive? It's a long-shot but one we'd like to see be correct.
What will happen with Mayra?
Mayra's (Indira Varma) storyline culminated this season in a sit down between herself and Angela, with Angela demanding she quit her job, because they had caught her in the illegal arms deal. However, Mayra and Roper were ultimately successful in their plan to deliver the electro-magnetic weapon to José, without the press capturing it on film, and it was Angela who ended up dead.
However, is this the last we've seen of Mayra? Will anyone discover her alliance with Roper? And will she continue her job in the government?
What role will Danny play in season 3?
The series ends with Roper reuniting with his now teenage son Danny (Noah Jupe), picking him up from boarding school and taking him home to his new house in Oxfordshire for the weekend. The show ends with Danny looking pensively out of the car window.
Does this suggest Danny will have a bigger role in the next season? During his interview with Variety, Farr expressed his desire to include Danny more as a character in the next season.
"There’s something interesting as well for Danny, who has no idea that Teddy even exists. I will say, I’m excited to work with Noah Jupe because he’s a really special actor," Farr explained. "We only used him lightly this season, but he’s very talented and he’s a lovely guy. So I want to write for him in season three, which is very exciting."
So it sounds like yes there will be more for Danny to do in the next season, but as for whether he'll be a support or enemy to his father is to still to be confirmed.
Will Elizabeth Debicki return for season 3?
If we do see Danny play a bigger role in the next series and the show seems to be heading towards more scenes set in England, we're wondering if that will mean the return of Elizabeth Debicki as Jed Marshall, who had a close maternal relationship with Danny?
So far it's still to be confirmed if Elizabeth will return, with David Farr telling Esquire UK they haven't approached her yet about coming back for season three.
When will season 3 come out?
Perhaps the biggest question we have is when are we going to find out the answer to all of our questions? The first season of The Night Manager aired back in 2016 and the second season didn't return until a decade later. Thankfully, it seems we won't be waiting a decade to watch the third season.
David Farr reassured viewers in an interview with Esquire UK that we won't have to wait 10 years for the new season.
"There's definitely a sense of urgency this time. We're not going to wait 10 years. We intend to make it in the way that we make it really good. I think people can rush things to get the next one out quickly. I think we've perhaps shown everyone that you don't have to do that, but no, we won't be waiting as long as that," he explained.
David also added they are currently in the process of writing the new series.
Fingers crossed we don't have to wait too long!
