A brand new twisty thriller has just started on BBC, and it’s already got viewers hooked. The Guest, starring Broadchurch's Eve Myles and Casualty star Gabrielle Creevy, centres on the toxic and beguiling relationship between cleaner, Ria (Creevy), and her mysterious employer, Fran (Myles).

"They begin with a very unusual relationship in which Fran has everything that Ria needs and wants. But as the story progresses, we see this power struggle between the two, and the relationship constantly flips all the way through," Myles teased.

The story is told over four episodes, with Ria and Fran's worlds becoming even more intertwined as the series goes on.

But, where exactly is The Guest set?

Read on for everything you need to know about the filming location.

Where was The Guest filmed?

The Guest is set and filmed in Wales. The series received Welsh Government support via Creative Wales.

"Wales offered brilliant filming locations and visual ambition," executive producer Davina Earl revealed.

"Wales is fantastic, Cardiff is this brilliant urban city, but you step outside of it, and it’s a whole other world. We shot on Rhossili Bay, which is one of the most stunning locations I've ever seen," Emun Elliott, who plays Fran's business associate Richard in the series, added.

Most of the drama take place at the fictional Maybury Court, where Fran's home is. These scenes were filmed at Whitson Court, a grand building dating back to 1791.

Whiston Court was once a large zoo and the main building was home to German Jewish refugees during World War II.

"Maybury Court is a beautiful home, the land around it is stunning, and it’s filled with all types of animals, there's peacocks and donkeys and cockerels. It’s an oasis of otherworldliness which lends itself to the otherworldliness of The Guest," Myles said.

"When you first see those gates open, it feels almost magical, like stepping into a fairy tale or a grand castle. That is exactly how Ria feels when she first sees it," Creevy added.

Ria and Fran first meet at the supermarket when Ria is accused of shoplifting, after which she tracks her down and offers her a job.

If you're familiar with the area, you may have spotted Cardiff’s Hayes Island Snack Bar during this scene. It opened in 1911 and is said to be the oldest snack bar still running in Wales. The Hayes is in the centre of Cardiff and is also home to St David’s Hall and the Central Library.

The coastal scenes were filmed at The Rhossili Beach and The Old Rectory at Rhossili Bay, Swansea. The property is available to rent for a holiday, with a price tag of £1649 for two nights.

Some of the darker scenes were actually filmed in the Welsh coastal town of Barry, where Gavin and Stacey famously takes place.

The snooker club seen throughout the series is the Savoy Snooker Club in Barry, while a Premier corner store in Barry was used to film an attack scene.

Other locations in the series include The Master Gunner pub in Cardiff’s outskirts, Cardiff’s Castle Arcade, as well as Cardiff Central Police Station, which was used for interviewing scenes.

The Guest airs on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
