Ridley is back once again on our TVs this evening, for the third and potentially most personal episode of the series so far, as Carol's son Jack (Tareq Al-Jeddal) becomes involved in a murder case.

The third episode kicks off with the death of a local developer whose body is discovered in the aftermath of a rave. Questions begin swirling and soon Ridley and Carol find themselves in a world of drugs, cover-ups and, surprisingly, an influencer. The case also sees Jack and his mysterious friend who he has been hanging out with all season pulled into the drama.

He's just a teenager and yet Jack has already been through his fair share of trauma, and as referenced multiple times in episode three, Jack went through a lot last year. So what happened again? Here's your reminder on everything that went down in season one of Ridley.

Who is Jack in Ridley?

Jack is the son of DI Carol Farman and her wife Geri. In season two, he's doing a classic teenage rebellion and acting out against his parents. He's hanging around with the "wrong" kids and is resentful over the arrival of his baby sister, which at one point results in him leaving his sister alone at home to hang out with his mates, much to the fury of his parents.

The first two episodes of the series sees his behaviour escalate and in episode three it all comes to a head when it is revealed Jack was actually in attendance at the rave where the murder takes place, and ends up having a bigger role in the crime than his mum would like.

What happened with Jack in Ridley season 1?

Throughout episode three of season two, Ridley and Carol constantly reference the hard time Jack went through last year. Now, while it might only be a year for the characters, it's actually been three years for us viewers since the show last aired, so I think we can be forgiven for not remembering all the ins and outs of Jack's trauma. So what happened?

In the season finale of series one, Ridley and Carol are investigating the death of a therapist Dr. Patrick Elliot, and one of the key suspects in the case is a man named Cal. Cal is also the man Ridley suspects of causing the fire that killed his own wife and daughter.

As the episode progresses, they try to gather enough evidence together to arrest Cal. However, there's lots of other issues going on, and Ridley is soon taken off the case for taking things too far.

While he's at the jazz club one night, Cal breaks into Ridley's house in order to steal some incriminating evidence. However, just as he goes into the house, so too does Jack, as he's been helping Ridley work on his boat.

When Jack spots Cal he goes to call Ridley to report the break-in, however just as Ridley's car pulls up to the house Cal grabs Jack and holds him hostage against the police. Thankfully, Ridley manages to save Jack, but it was touch and go at one point.

Naturally after surviving something like that, it's going to have an impact on Jack and that's what we see take place in episode three of season two.
