Movie Night will take place tonight (Friday 11th July), with the Love Island 2025 cast getting to see exactly what the others have been saying about them behind their backs.

We predict Harry, Harrison and Dejon in particular will have a lot of explaining to do...

Although a major moment on the ITV2 dating show, Movie Night is a fairly new inclusion, after being introduced for season seven back in 2021.

While a few things have remained the same on the show, such as the general concept, the recouplings and Iain Stirling's signature voiceover, there have been a lot of changes to Love Island over the years.

As the Movie Night chaos kicks off, read on for all the ways Love Island has changed - from smoking in the villa, to Islanders getting freaky on camera and lots more.

Smoking

Then: The Islanders used to smoke on camera and in the first three seasons, we'd often see the cast having a little gossip session in the smoking area.

Now: After complaints and concerns about glamorising cigarettes, ITV banned on-screen smoking and there's now an off-camera smoking area that contestants can only visit one at a time.

Movie Night

Then: Back then, the challenges were more sloppy food games or fun and flirty tasks that left no lasting impact.

Now: Movie Night was introduced in 2021, bringing a new era of drama in the villa as Islanders got a front row seat to all those sneaky conversations and wild antics.

The first one led to Faye Winter having a huge meltdown as a clip was shown of her partner at the time, Teddy Soares admitting to fancying Clarisse Juliette.

Hosts

Then: Love Island was original hosted by the late Caroline Flack, who became very popular for her iconic villa entrance walk.

Now: The series is now hosted by Maya Jama, who took over from Laura Whitmore as the host in 2023. Maya is also the host of Love Island Games and All Stars. Get that cheque, girl!

Social media

Then: Pre-2023, contestants used to have friends or family run their social media accounts while they were in the villa. They'd hop on every night at 9pm and Tweet away, sharing funny memes and support for the Islander.

Now: Since the 2023 winter series, Islanders have been required to keep their social media accounts inactive during their time in the villa, following duty of care concerns and a rise in Ofcom complaints.

The prize

Then: From 2015 to 2021, the Islanders had to decide whether they wanted to "split" or "steal" the £50,000 cash prize.

Now: During the 2022 season, this option was scrapped and winners automatically split the money. I mean, no one ever chose to take all the money for themselves, but it was always a fun moment on social media imaging the chaos it would cause if they did...

Casa Amor

Then: Before 2017, there was no such thing as Casa Amor. Love Island lasted about six weeks and the Islanders spent all that time in the main villa together.

Now: Casa Amor was introduced for season three in 2017, and what a twist. That year, the girls were even sent a postcard including pictures of what the boys had got up to over in Casa Amor. It was so spicy and had us in an absolute chokehold. No wonder it's been brought back every year since.

Length of time

Then: Season one of Love Island back in 2015 lasted five and a half weeks. This then went up to about six weeks the year after.

Now: The show now airs for eight weeks. Season three was the first series to last this long, and now it's become the norm.

Dumpings

Then: For the first Casa Amor, Islanders were immediately dumped if they chose not to recouple with someone new and their partner did, making them single.

Now: Up until the most recent Casa Amor recoupling, single OG Islanders weren't dumped from the villa immediately after Casa and were given a chance to either repair their relationship or move onto someone new. The original format was brought back this week, however, as singletons Emily and Giorgio were dumped along with the Casa Amor cast who weren't chosen.

Challenges

Then: Pre-2020, the Tweet challenge existed, where Islanders had to fill in redacted Tweets from the public. Back in 2017, the Islanders read out a post from rapper Stormzy, which read: "Chris you're too good for her mate," causing even more tension in Chris Hughes and Olivia Attwood's couple.

Now: The Tweet challenge was permanently scrapped ahead of the 2020 Winter series, with the producers citing mental health risks. It was later replaced with the Headline challenge and most recently, a quote challenge was introduced where the Islanders had to guess which Islander had said a particular quote.

Sex

Then: Love Island used to show the Islanders doing the deed on camera. Remember Zara Holland and Alex Bowen's Hideaway moment that led to her being stripped of her Miss Great Britain title and Emma Woodham and Terry Walsh doing it in the main bedroom in front of the others. The show was very different back then.

Now: From about 2019 onwards, viewers were shown less of this action on screen, following public and media scrutiny. Now, it's mostly off-camera or implied by the Islanders.

The villa

Then: Since the show's reboot in 2015, Mallorca has been the primary home of Love Island.

Now: As well as few glow ups over the years, the show moved to a much bigger villa for season eight (2022). It's larger, flashier, and has been built specifically for the show. The Winter series also meant a brand new villa over in South Africa.

New episodes of Love Island air on ITV2 at 9pm on weekdays and Sundays.
