Eight weeks soaking up the sun in a Mallorcan villa definitely sounds good to me, but the Love Island cast do have to follow quite a lengthy list of rules while on the show.
Following her exit, season 12 star Malisha revealed that the girls kept getting "told off" for removing their microphones.
She said: "I feel like a lot of the girls got told off, especially for not wearing their mics. So if we’re getting changed or something, sometimes we would forget to put or mics back on."
She added to Closer Online: "And then we start having a conversation and it’s like ‘Girls, put your mic back on’ and it’s like ugh. Then you have to either leave the conversation or say it again."
So, what exactly are the Love Island rules? What aren't the Islanders allowed to do? And more importantly, what happens if they break the rules?
Here's everything you need to know.
Love Island rules
Smoking/vaping inside the villa or villa garden is forbidden
Islanders can only smoke in the designated area outside the villa, and they're only allowed out there one at a time.
Once upon a Love Island time, contestants were allowed to smoke on screen, but this was banned due to viewer complaints and concerns about glamorising cigarettes.
It was thought that Dejon was vaping on a previous episode, however, it turns out that the bright object viewers had mistaken for a vape, was in fact a lip balm.
No phones or prohibited items
This is an obvious one, but the contestants have to give up all personal devices before heading into the villa to prevent them from having any contact with the outside world.
No nudity
Reports suggest the Islanders can’t ever be naked inside the villa (including the bathroom) because it’s a public space and that’s a big no-no.
Season 10's Jess Harding revealed how her friend Whitney Adebayo used this rule to avoid certain scenes making it on air.
Speaking in an Instagram chat, Jess said that when Whitney wanted to change her wig, she would pull a boob out and then take her wig off, as she knew the footage would be cut.
Quite iconic, if you ask us!
No masturbating
According to The Mirror, while the Islanders are free to have sex, there is an outright ban on masturbating in the villa.
No inappropriate language or behaviour
There’s a zero tolerance policy when it comes to aggressive behaviour and inappropriate language. Remember when series two contestant Malia Arkian was removed within an hour of her arrival after an incident involving Kady McDermott?
In 2019, Sherif Lanre was removed from the villa after accidentally kicking Molly-Mae Hague in the groin area and then joking about it, using bad language including the c-word.
Speaking to The Sun, following his exit, Sherif explained: "I've never used the word before and I don't know where it came from. I think I have heard other people saying it and it just popped out.
"But I realise it can be offensive and, as someone that was raised by a strong and loving mother, I want to say that I would never intentionally harm a woman."
He continued: "I know I have been stupid and let myself down, but I was not being malicious.
"This has been blown out of all proportion and I have been made to look like a terrible person when I am not."
A spokesperson for Love Island said in a statement at the time: "Sherif fully accepted and agreed that he broke the rules and that he should leave.
"We have a duty of care towards all of the islanders and as such we would not make public the details of the breach of code."
No excessive drinking
Liana Isadora Van-Riel, who appeared on the 2016 season, previously told The Sun Online: "You're allowed one or two drinks a night, either wine or beer, no spirits.”
No unsafe sex
Contestants must use protection while in the villa.
Love Island star Marcel Somerville shared that, in his experience, the show's producers strongly emphasised safe sex, requiring all contestants to pass STI tests before entering the villa.
Although Marcel didn’t have sex during his time on the show, he told The Mirror that extensive health screenings are carried out, with “quite a few” tests conducted before contestants are officially signed up.
Microphones need to be worn
Unless Islanders are taking a shower or need to remove their mics to do something, they must wear the mics at all time so that conversations can be captured.
Season 12's Malisha revealed that the girls got "told off" for forgetting to put their mics back on and would have to either leave a conversation or have it again.
New episodes of Love Island air on ITV on weekdays and Sundays at 9pm.
