Since its release — and, TBH, in the months/weeks/days leading up to it — Wicked has been all we (and the world) can talk about. From the epic costumes to the award-deserving performances, everyone and their Toto has had Wicked fever.

One moment in particular that really got us all talking was when the film's leading stars, Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, sat down for an interview with journalist Tracy Gilchrist. During said interview, Tracy explained that fans had been "holding space" for the lyrics of Defying Gravity — one of the musical's most iconic songs. This revelation prompted a very emotional response from the pair, and Ariana (now infamously) took hold of Cynthia's finger as they, essentially, held space together.

Now, a month after the viral interview, the duo have revealed what was actually going on — and it's hilarious. "I didn't know what any part of it meant," Ariana told Variety magazine this week. "I didn't understand the first sentence, and then I definitely didn't understand how you [Cynthia] responded. And I just wanted to be there. Because I knew something big was happening, and I didn’t know how to be there."

Cynthia agreed, re: the confusion of it all. "After a while, I didn't know how to be there," she said.

Naturally, fans were gagged by the admission that — like the rest of us — no one really knew what was going on with the whole holding space saga. "As if this couldn't get any funnier!!!!" one person commented in response to the Variety interview, as another wrote: "This Wicked press tour is making HISTORY."

"I actually cannot stop laughing because the second I first saw this video, I KNEW that no one in that room was on the same page," someone else commented, as a fourth wrote: "WAIT the fact they were all confused is sending me."

Erm, we'll definitely be watching this on repeat. For the foreseeable.
