Season 2 of The Diplomat recently landed on Netflix, much to fans' delight. After waiting over a year to find out what happened after the deadly explosion in London, viewers finally saw US ambassador Kate Wyler head to the capital to deal with the fallout. All while juggling her deteriorating marriage with her soon-to-be ex-husband and fellow diplomat Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell).
But alongside a nail-bitingly tense storyline and a stellar cast, The Diplomat also boasts some iconic filming locations, which we've rounded up for you here... Some of these buildings and landscapes are so famous you'll be sure to recognise them!
Inveraray Castle, Scotland
Episodes three and four largely feature Inveraray Castle, located near Inveraray in the county of Argyll, western Scotland. A breathtakingly majestic building - and one that gives major Harry Potter vibes - the 18th-century building is one of the earliest examples of Gothic Revival architecture.
The castle opens its doors to visitors between March and October, where you can take a tour of the country house and its gardens. For the rest of the year, the wider estate is open to explore.
St Paul’s Cathedral, London
St. Paul's Cathedral is by far one of the most famous buildings in London, built between 1675 and 1710. If you've ever visited the capital, you'll likely have made a stop to check out the impressive English Baroque-style architecture.
In terms of The Diplomat, producer Debora Cahn told Netflix's Tudum that they were allowed to borrow the cathedral's robes. She said: "The robes our clergy wore were lent to us by the cathedral. It was the fourth time they'd ever been worn, including Winston Churchill's funeral, and Margaret Thatcher's. It was breathtaking."
Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire
Speaking of Churchill, The Diplomat was also able to bag the birthplace and ancestral home of the former Prime Minister: Blenheim Palace. It's one of England's largest houses, and has been known to feature in many other famous films and series, including Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Spectre, and of course, Bridgerton.
Thanks to the success of the latter, the palace runs exclusive Bridgerton tours, where fans can get a BTS look at the filming of the iconic show. Not a fan of the Regency-era drama? No worries - you can also take a general tour of the place, which includes the palace, parkland, and formal gardens.
Wrotham Park, Hertfordshire
Wrotham Park is a sprawling country estate located on the outskirts of London, and was used as the US ambassador's residence in the show.
As well as being a filming location, Wrotham Park can also be hired as a wedding venue. However, it doesn't hold a marriage license, so is used primarily for receptions.
Wilton House, Salisbury
You'll likely recognise Wilton House from the recent Disney+ series, Rivals, plus other major productions like Pride & Prejudice, The Crown and Bridgerton.
The house is open to the public from the Easter holidays, both for tours of the interiors or a family picnic in the stunning gardens.
Syon House, London
Syon House is the west London residence of the Duke of Northumberland and lies within the 200-acre Syon Park. The house is open to the public between January to October, and is also available for private and corporate events, weddings and filming.
Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, London
Some serious sucking up must have been done for Netflix to land the UK's literal Foreign Office as a filming location. The website details the office as the home of the "government agency that leads the UK's diplomatic, consular, and development work around the world."
Glen Torridon, Scotland
Finally, the enchanting landscape of Scotland's Glen Torridon was used as a backdrop to The Diplomat. Located in the stunning Highlands, the area is dominated by three big peaks; Beinn Alligin, Liathach and Beinn Eighe. It's an ideal spot for hikers, as well as those who love to be surrounded by nature.
The Diplomat is now streaming on Netflix.
