In the twisted lives of the students/alumni at Baird College, there's always more to the story. And, TBH, it's my favourite story on television right now. As Tell Me Lies returns for a season two, I'm already looking ahead to what comes next, so I did some digging to find out everything I can about Tell Me Lies season three.
Tell Me Lies is based on a novel of the same name by Carola Lovering, but that doesn't mean the show is limited by the plot of the book. And the fact that the story takes place in two different timelines—2008 and 2015—and, it's clear that there's always going to be more potential for new storylines. Though the show's first season focused on the twisted (and toxic) relationship between Stephen (Jackson White) and Lucy (Grace Van Patten), season two is expanding more into the lives of supporting characters, Bree (Cat Missal) and Pippa (Sonia Mena). There's no telling where the show could go in future seasons... season three just has to get picked up first.
Is Tell Me Lies renewed for a season 3?
Tell Me Lies has not yet been renewed for a season three, and Hulu has kept the show's future about as secret as Stephen has kept his relationship with Maci (remember, the girl he accidentally killed while driving under the influence in season one?), which is to say top secret. The show wasn't officially picked up for a season two until one month after the season one finale aired in October of 2022, so odds are we won't hear news about a third season until after season two has aired in full.
What would Tell Me Lies season 3 be about?
Creator and executive producer Meaghan Oppenheimer previously confirmed in an interview with Deadline that the second season of Tell Me Lies will go beyond the original book. It stands to reason that season three would take Stephen and Lucy's story even further from the book. Perhaps by showing fans what happens after they reunite for Bree's wedding in 2012.
And most recently Oppenheimer has confirmed the third season would encompass a time jump. Speaking to Variety following that dramatic season two finale, she confirmed there would "probably" be a time jump.
Who would be cast in Tell Me Lies season 3?
Tell Me Lies is an ensemble show, but you can't have a season three without Lucy and Stephen. Should the show get a third season, I would expect to see stars Grace Van Patten and Jackson White returning, alongside Cat Missal, Sonia Mena, Alicia Crowder, Branden Cook, and Spencer House.
One person who won't be returning however is Tom Ellis. The Welsh actor joined the show for season two as Oliver and following the breakdown of Oliver's relationship with Bree at the end of the season, it appears Tom wouldn't return for future seasons.
When asked by Variety if Tom (who also happens to be her husband IRL) would return, series creator Megan Oppenheimer said she didn't think so, adding: "I think Tom was just wanting to do one season. I think that we wrapped up his storyline in a way that really worked for me. I don’t know where else we would go after that with him."
As for the rest of the cast we'll have to wait for the confirmation of season three to find out for sure.
When would Tell Me Lies season 3 be released?
Assuming Tell Me Lies does get a season three renewal, odds are the show would follow the same production calendar as season two, which means fans could expect to see new episodes in the autumn of 2026.
