Mr & Mrs Smith has finally arrived on Prime Video, telling the story of two spies John (Donald Glover) and Jane (Maya Erskine) who are recruited into an arranged marriage in order to give themselves a cover story when carrying out their dangerous espionage missions. But, hold on, what spy organisation are the married couple/spies actually working for?

The new eight-part series is inspired by the 2005 film of the same name starring Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. In the original film the couple, who are both spies, are years into their marriage, before realising their partner is in fact also a spy but working for a rival spy agency. However, in the new series, John and Jane are recruited by the same agency to work together and form a fake marriage in order to carry out their missions.

So what is the spy agency they work for? Here's what you need to know.

What spy organisation do Mr & Mrs Smith work for?

In the beginning of the series we see John and Jane apply for a new job as spies at an unknown organisation.

They are both interviewed by a robot machine, which they insert their nail clippings into. It then asks them a series of questions such as what their height is, their ethnicity, and if they're willing to relocate.

As the series goes on, we don't learn a lot more about the organisation, with it only ever communicating via the laptop or phones they're given and introducing itself as "hi hi" in the first few episodes. The missions are all seemingly random with not much of a link to each other. We also learn there is a series of other Mr and Mrs Smiths dotted around the country, all taking on the same alias and carrying out secret missions.

Towards the end of the series we learn that the organisation seems to prioritise Jane more than John, believing her to be a "better" agent and want to advance her. So what is the organisation exactly?

Well we're still not sure. During the final episode when the other John and Jane Smith aka the finalisers turn up to kill our John and Jane. Before attempting to kill them the four of them sit and have drink where they explain they only "finalise" other Smiths, under the instruction of "Supe" and describe him as a god, adding that he "knows what you're going to do before you do".

So while revealing it's likely one man in control of the organisation, they don't go onto reveal any more information about him, presumably because they don't know much more.

What we do know, is the "hihi" organisation seems unlikely to be linked to any USA national security missions, as Jane reveals she didn't make the cut for the CIA and John revealed he had a "dishonourable discharge" from the marines. This then all suggests it's unlikely for the US government to be hiring either of them.

So as for the true identity of the spy organisation and what its overall aims are, we'll never know for sure.

Unless of course we get a season two. Prime Video if you're reading this, we really need a second season.
