The Hunger Games fans, get ready as The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes is here!
The prequel follows Coriolanus Snow before his rise to President of the Capitol, as he is tasked with mentoring District 12 tribute, Lucy Gray Baird.
The movie comes almost ten years after the original The Hunger Games films, starring Jennifer Lawrence, and fans have an interesting theory about Katniss Everdeen being related to Lucy Gray. So, are they really related? Here's what we know.
Are Katniss Everdeen and Lucy Gary Baird related?
Lucy Gray Baird is the female tribute from District 12 in the 10th annual Hunger Games. Before this, she was a part of a musical troupe called the Covey, who used to travel through Panem before the Districts were segregated after the civil war.
Katniss is also known for her singing voice, which she is said to have inherited from her father, causing fans to believe she could be descended from a member of the Covey.
Katniss and the Covey also know several of the same songs, most notably 'The Hanging Tree'. Katniss learns the protest song from her father, but since the song is forbidden, perhaps the Covey passed it down to their children in secret.
Plus, Katniss and the Covey are strongly associated with Mockingjays as the musical troupe sings with the birds, as did late Katniss' father. Then, when Katniss becomes the face of the rebellion, she becomes known as the Mockingjay.
Then, in The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, Lucy Gray is with Coriolanus when a member of the Covey gives her a plant, to which she says Katniss would be a good name for it.
So, with Lucy Gray basically naming the plant, maybe the name was then passed down through generations all the way to Katniss. We love this theory!
