Calling all Ancient Greek fans (yes that's a thing), the highly anticipated trailer for Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey movie just dropped, and fans have had a lot to say about one aspect of the upcoming movie.
Earlier today, the new full length trailer for The Odyssey dropped on YouTube, sharing an insight into Nolan's adaptation of Homer's legendary epic poem of the same name, which follows the story of Odysseus (Matt Damon) attempting to travel home to his wife Penelope (Anne Hathaway) and son Telemachus (Tom Holland) after the Trojan War.
And while much of the trailer plunges us straight back into the world of Ancient Greece, one thing that felt decidedly 21st century was one of Tom Holland's lines of script.
Around the midway point of the trailer, Tom, who plays Telemachus, is seen speaking to Robert Pattinson's character Antinous about how his father will one day return...except he doesn't actually use that word. Instead Telemachus says: "My dad is coming home."
His words seem in response to Antinous' words, when he says: "You're pining for a daddy you didn't even know like some snivelling b*****d."
So what's with all the daddy references? Well, while many fans were blown away by the trailer, many couldn't get over the seemingly 21st century language and using dad/daddy instead of father, which is likely to have felt more in keeping with the Ancient Greek setting of the movie.
One fan wrote on YouTube: "First time hearing 'DAD' in a historical epic film." Another said: "They should never say 'dad' in a historical epic, sounds like something from a sitcom."
While another compared the quote to another famous son, writing: "'My Dad is coming home' gave 'My father will hear about this' vibes.." And another added: "Tom Holland saying Dad instead of father sounds weird."

However, given what a master of filmmaking Nolan is, we're sure there's likely to be a good reason for the use of "dad" over "father", and we will be sat in the cinema on 17th July to find out for sure!
The Odyssey is available in cinemas from 17th July 2026
