That’s right, the classic film we know and love is back with a new era of The Plastics set to terrorise Cady Heron and the rest of North Shore High School.
Inspired by the original film and award-winning Broadway musical, we’re so ready to make fetch happen once more. So, from the cast, release date to trailer, here is everything you need to know about the Mean Girls movie musical.
What is the Mean Girls musical film about?
Much like the 2004 version, the new Mean Girls musical movie will follow teenager Cady Heron, who moves to North Shore High School and hatches a plan with Janis and Damon to infiltrate The Plastics, led by none other than Regina George.
But, as it's also adapted from the 2018 Broadway musical, there’s also set to be iconic musical numbers throughout. You go, Glen Coco!
Is there a trailer for the Mean Girls musical film?
On Wednesdays, we watch the new Mean Girls trailer! Our first look at the adaptation dropped on 8th November and there’s so much happening.
Featuring Olivia Rodrigo's ‘Get Him Back!’, the trailer starts out with the warning: “This is not your mother's Mean Girls.” We then get our first glimpse of Reneé Rapp as Regina George, plus Tina Fey returns as does the iconic Burn Book, the Winter Talent Show and more.

Who is the cast of the Mean Girls musical film?
The cast features faces we know and love plus new names, including:
- Angourie Rice as Cady Heron (she plays Betty in Spider-Man Homecoming and No Way Home!)
- Reneé Rapp as Regina George (from The Sex Lives of College Girls)
- Auli’i Cravalho as Janice (AKA Moana herself)
- Jaquel Spivey as Damian
- Avantika Vandanapu as Karen
- Bebe Wood as Gretchen
- Christopher Briney as Aaron Samuels (that’s Conrad from The Summer I Turned Pretty).
Plus, Tina Fey returns as Ms. Norbury and Emily in Paris’ Ashley Park plays a French teacher. Rachel McAdams has also revealed she was almost in the revival, but eventually decided against it.
"Tina and I sort of dabbled with a few ideas, but it was tough to make it all work in the end,” she told Variety. "I was really down for whatever she wanted to do. I think the direction it went in will be fantastic and I cannot wait to see it."
